Posey high on lakers list!

Post#1 » by Italianhanger » Thu Jun 19, 2008 5:07 pm

"But they also must find time to make decisions, and perhaps the most interesting call will come on James Posey. The key reserve is expected to exercise his option and forego the $ 3,462,480 he can take for next season. And the list of suitors should be lengthy. (How badly do the Lakers need a guy like this?)"-Boston Herald

The Lakers could also use a defensive presence in the frontcourt other than Bynum, which Jackson has referred to from time to time. "The only missing part that I've always consistently said is we need a head-banger, we need a tough guy on this team," Jackson said after signing a two-year extension with the Lakers a month into this season. i say we should go for posey this year...
the machine i love him but i am very shaky on whether we can resign him...
odom is on the trading block after that stinky performance he produced during the finals, we still have him for next season but i highly doubt we'll have that long...
posey will be the perfect fit and he can opt out of his contract this season since he isnt earning that much for a guy like him...

too be honest ive always thought posey was overrated but seeing him play in the finals fearlessly diving for balls and out hustling kobe, this guy is the banger the zen master needs

I hope Posey is high on our list; the dude destroyed us. Seriously though, his hustle and intensity could be instrumental for a Lakers championship run for next season; especially, with his ability to defend bigger wing-type players; Pierce, Bron ext. and knock down open jump-shots, get Posey!

If we got Posey, I guess Ariza would not be re-signed

Yeah, I like Posey's toughness and 3 point threat, but I think the Celtics would be nuts to let him walk. Even with all the money they have to pay...

Plus, I think Posey's style of play would stick out like a sore thumb to the officials on our team and in the West in general. I don't think he'd be out of foul trouble all year...

I look for a few guys to retire from that team and others to be let go. But I bet Posey is a priority for them...

We NEED James Posey! He would be amazing for this team! We can fit him right in at the backup SF spot. Why not have an Horry-esque player on our team?

If we can get Posey, we must do it! He's exactly what we need.

I'd be very surprised if the Celtics don't bend over backwards to keep him.

The Celtics will definitely try to resign him, but we (the Celtics) can only give him the mid-level exception. If you guys can top it, or match it and add a few Holllywood satrlets, you just might get him.

He was the glue for us all year long, and could be great for you. Not sure if he would put up with being publicly bitched out by Kobe though.

i don't think we can go higher, the best i think that could be done is matching it, other teams might offer more, we'll just have to see where he wants to go

Ariza already has a contract for next season. He has a player option should he choose to pick it up which I'm sure he will seeing he's coming off a injury and didn't play much in the playoffs.

Everybody here is missing the point yeah Posey is a nice defender but the Lakers need a 3 who can shoot the ball period. Getting Posey would be a plus but he's not a starter. I'd much rather have Artest.

We should offer Posey the MLE, if for no other reason than to force Boston to use their MLE so they can't use it on someone else... lol.

But yeah, the Celtics will control if Posey stays or goes. I don't think he'll get any offers >MLE simply because the teams that would want him the most (contenders) don't have any cap space.

That's what I'm talking bout. I agree but the optimist in me is still hoping that Artest comes here with the full MLE though.

This is a somewhat misleading title.

It's merely speculation, actually a parenthetical, passing comment, by the Boston Herald.

On top of that, OP, your second quote doesn't make sense to me, since I don't see its relevancy to James Posey.

There's no reason why Posey or the Celtics will part ways. They just won a championship. Lakers can't offer anything more than the MLE. There's no equivalent that makes a trade sensible, as if the Lakers and the Celtics would be willing trade partners now. As much as I'd like a Radamnovic for Posey and PJ Brown...

Lakers don't have any advantage whatsoever in prying Posey away from the Celtics.

P.S. I think the latimes reported that Ariza exercised his player option to stay with the Lakers.

if he plays like the Lakers did, he would have to take a bitchout by Kobe or even a shot to the shoulder if he is sitting next to Sasha and some towel boy tries to console the machine.

With the way Posey plays, there'd be no reason for Kobe to "bitch him out". Not at all.

No doubt Posey or even Artest would be interesting, exciting additions, but it will be difficult for the Lakers to add a SF this offseason.

Ariza has exercised his option. Walton and Radmonovic are unlikely going anywhere. Kobe plays some minutes at the three, especially after The Machine's emergence, and Odom could be logging some three minutes too with Bynum coming back.

i like the way this guy play. this guy is so good in 3 point shooting. this guy is deadly oh man. and his defense were so great. i really want him to be on this team but that's way too impossible to get a superb player from a defending champion. no thanks.

Doesn't hurt to try. Why say no thanks?
