ESPN: Elton Brand Is On The Block

Post#1 » by RJM » Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:51 pm

The Clippers have been looking to move up to the No. 3 spot to get Mayo, and they've talked with a number of teams about virtually everyone on L.A.'s roster.

According to one Clippers insider, "No one is safe right now." With players such as Elton Brand, Al Thornton and Chris Kaman on the roster, the Clips could jolt things as the draft approaches.

Woah....this is going to make the Draft pretty interesting.

I think Fraud is just trying to instigate some talk with his rumors.

Everyone knows the weeks leading up to the draft are full of bs rumors.

But if this is true, that's interesting.

But even more interesting are the rumors about Riley wanting Mayo, which would now force the clippers to negotiate with the heat, rather than the timerwolves.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Yeah I know. That's what I was getting at. Considering the rumors that Riley wants Mayo, this could be the reason why. In essence, he could use Mayo to get an All-Star Power Forward while keeping Marion and adding a great draft pick (likely a PG). I wouldn't be surprised as Riley has been known to pull blockbuster trades out of his ass.

Yeah I'd say that "Elton Brand is on the Block" is a really big stretch here. "No one is safe" doesn't mean that they're looking to trade anyone in particular.

Why does leaking rumours that he wants Mayo help him get Brand? Beasley has more trade value....
If Riley is willing to trade Beasley, he could easily get Brand and the Clips pick. I doubt he's willing to do that though.

My guess is that the Heat could use that 7th Pick to snatch up Roy Hibbert/Alexis Ajinca (He'd be a great addition to Wade-Marion-Brand). With that acquisition, Dorrell Wright could then be moved. Dude's been a disappointment.

It's hilarious how a comment like "no one is safe right now" = Elton Brand is on the chopping block. That would mean Chris Kaman and Al Thornton are on the chopping block as well and we all know those two aren't going anywhere. This is all from "an insider." It'd be more credible if were from Elgin Baylor, Mike Dunleavy or even Andy Roeser and even then it wouldn't mean too much.

Also, Riley saying he wants Mayo does nothing to help him land Brand. If a trade is going to happen, the Clippers are only interested in Rose or Beasley at the #2...and it's debatable if the Clippers would want to trade a 20/10 all-star forward for a forward who can potentially be 20/10 down the road.

This all hinges on whether or not Brand is going to opt out of his $16 million this year. We'll see in a few weeks. If he doesn't opt out, I don't think they'll try to move him until the trading deadline if they can't agree to an extension.

I would love Brand..i would trade the #2 pick, wed be going down the Boston route trading for 2 All Stars after a season of tanking and having your best player injured most of the season. (Wade, Pierce)...so its kinda like adding 3 All-Stars.

Clipper fans dont like it, but theres a chance of Brand leaving for nothing, that will make Baylor think hard about it. And having a 20-10 guy on a rookie contract is also enticing.

A Wade, Marion, Brand trio would be interesting. Though Miami would still have some pretty big holes at PG and C and would need to build a better bench if they wanted to compete for a title. They'd need to add a few shooters and defenders off the bench and find a better center than Blount.

If this is actually true, and given the success of Boston and La after trading for bigs, Elton will definitely be a hot commodity...

Wade, Marion, Brand would be a hell of a trio. Every bit as good as Boston's, and possibly better. Knowing Pat Riley's will to win, and knowing he's getting up there in age, I could see it going down.

Not bad for the Clippers either, provided they keep #7. A young trio of Mayo, Thornton, and Kaman plus #7 to build around. Not too shabby.

Brand is going to Detroit. At least that's what he told me.

I doubt Miami is willing to pay Wade, Marion and Brand. It'd be a team that could challenge Bostons to get into the finals but I still think it's very unlikely to see the three All-Stars together.

I could see the Mavs trading for Brand.

Wade's going to be paid, w/o a doubt. The question becomes now, who will his sidekick be? We can't have 3 Max players, but we can have 2 and quality role players to round out the roster.

This makes the draft more fun to watch. But I think the Clippers should just stay put and draft Eric Gordon.
