azubuike would fit great here!!!
he opted out in golden state and think he would be a great fit, he's long athletic and can score if we could get him a 3 yr 6m deal and diop 4 yr 16m with the mle and maybe a trade or two this could b a successful offseason

Dallas needs to spend their entire MLE on Azubuike .
Forget Diop! Offer the FULL MLE on Azubuike and deal with a min player backup center as I'm sure the Dirk/Bass combo will be used too much and when it is not, we have Dampier.
Hell, if you have to trade Stack for a Gadzurac (dump) and a pick if backup center is that much of a need that you will overlook what Azubuike & Kidd can do together.

Agreed! This team needs a legit 2 more than a backup C. And there will be numerous min players to address the latter.

We should sign him to the full mle if that is what it takes. Backup center is a need but that could filled with min contracts or a stack, george, or wright trade. We also have Bass who should have the value to get us a heavy minute backup or even starting center.

I'd rather go for pietrus over him. Not saying pietrus is a better player, but i think pietrus would be a better fit, also because pietrus is better on D, can score at least 10+ a game for us, and is an aggressive, finisher at the basket, plus i think his imitidation factor with his dunks would be awesome for us.
azubuike tends to finish weak with layups.
I'd take either player though haha but pietrus would be cheaper for us 2.

you fill a starting role before a back center role, I think azubuike could average 15 and 5 with solid minutes! I like diop but he's a career backup, why not go athletic at the five and send denver eddie jones expiring for steven hunter

Steven Hunter only has another year on his contract, correct? I don't see why Denver would want to move a big when that's the biggest need on the team. They need Nene to stay healthy and Steven Hunter's the backup plan.

It would scare me to offer him the whole MLE. Yes he is young at 25 yrs old and could improve with more playing time, but he only averaged 8.5 points & 4.0 rebounds last year. He got to the line less than 2 times a game, so he's a jump shooter and though he does shoot good %'s, its not good enough to give him that much money.

Re: azubuike would fit great here!!!
Whoever they go after to fill the SG spot needs to be first and foremost an absolute shut down defender. Think about the last three playoff exits. In each case the biggets issue they had was that a G went crazy on them. No answer for Wade, Baron Davis, or Chris Paul. I know these guys are all great players, but they don't flat out score at will against other teams. Obviously Kidd is the starting PG, and he is a strong team defender, but not a great one-on-one shut down defender. He's big enough to guard the other teams SG if the PG is the premier scorer (Paul or Davis), so the starting SG needs to be a guy who can play some real solid D on the other teams best backcourt scorer. The guy has to also be serviceable on offense so that the other team can't cheat off of him, they don't need him to be a big time scorer.
Does Azubuike fit this need? Can't say I've seen a whole lot of him, but in posts above it sounds like defense is not his strength. Is it possible that with Nellie as his coach defense hasn't been stressed? Does a bear defecate in the woods?
From the '07 series, I was impressed with the game of Matt Barnes. He seemed like that real annoying Doug Christie-type defender and had a least some offensive game. (I wonder if he has a real crazy wife?) He's athletic enough to run with Kidd. Not sure he has the offensive game to be a full time starter, but again, with Nellie as the coach maybe his minutes were limited because he was better at defense than offense.

I just dont think a guy like Matt Barnes or Kelina Azubuike are gonna make much of a difference. They are role players. And that really wasnt our problem last year. It was Howard, Kidd, Stackhouse, Dampier. Our starters and top guys off the bench didnt perform.

Maybe so, but I think if you give Stack's minutes to Matt Barnes you are instantly much better. Stack is nothing but an outside shooter who doesn't shoot very well but doesn't seem to realize he doesn't shoot very well.
Barnes probably would be no more than a role player, but the Mavs role players all stink.

Good point.
I would love to go after Posey. I hate him, but I would love him on the Mavs. One of those types of players. Trade Howard/Stack for Redd.
G- Kidd / Terry
G- Redd / Terry
F- Posey / George
F- Dirk / Bass
C- Damp / MLE
I think our defense improves getting a player like Posey who can really defend and takes pride in it, apose to Howard who doesnt seem interested anymore, and Redd taking Terry's minutes at SG is a falt out upgrade offensively.

PIETRUS! Defense is good.
I see redd as too much of a Jump shooter which we already have plenty of.
Keep j.ho im not willing to give up on him yet, because of a half ass season.
Either way, i recall him saying before he only wanted to play in the NBA for 5 years or so.....well its about that time i think.....maybe hes not interested anymore.
Pietrus and we can still go after a Big.

I like that scenario. I'm all up for moving Howard for Redd if we can add a defensive minded SF. With Posey you aren't giving up much on the offensive end either. If we add Redd and one of either Mags or Posey I'd be thrilled.

Re: azubuike would fit great here!!!
^Well I dont know if there's any need for both Redd/Maggette since neither are good defenders, but I think Redd would be a huge upgrade offensively (despite the fact we stil wouldnt have any inside presence, driving or posting up) and Posey would improve the individual and team defense greatly.
