Look for the Wolves to make every effort to buy out the contract of forward Antoine Walker or trade him. You can rest assured he won't be warming the bench while the team's young players perform next season.

Although Walker was a professional and looked to be a good teammate throughout the season, I will be somewhat relieved to see us go our separate ways. I wonder if he will be used in a deal to try and get another pick or some future prospects sometime after the draft. Im not sure I see Taylor buying out yet another contract.

Walker needs to be used to get Chris Wilcox somehow. I really need to see that happen. It'd please me.

Walker's value is as a tradable expiring. This year, unlike the Ratliff expiring in the past, he's a tradable commodity because we could afford to take back salary in the future without going over the lux.

Buying out Walker this year does not make sense to me to better the team. First, let's make an assumption that Walker leaves $1 mil on the table to go elsewhere, like Juwon and Hudson. Does that $1 mil this year really give us opportunities that could better the team, or does it simply save Taylor $1 mil? The price-tag for the $1 mil is getting rid of a potentially very useful trade asset.

If the team doesn't want Walker around the team, just tell him that. I don't think they should buy him out, at least until after the trade deadline.

Would you be willing to eat up some Summer 2009 cap space with adding $6.6 mil of Earl Watson next season?

Walker + #34 for Wilcox + Watson + #24 works financially once the picks get their salaries. SEA gets a $3 mil TPE, but we add about $10 mil in salary over the next two years to do this deal. They should like the chance to further stream-line their team, and there have been rumbles about moving down (and up) with the #24.

No, not because of the salaries, but just because Earl Watson does nothing for this team.

Shrink,

Wilcox+Marshall for Walker+Buckner works. If we attach our draft picks to it we might have the workings of something that will happen.

I would certainly do that deal shrink. We wont have enough cap space to sign someone to a max deal (or am I wrong?) All letting walker and buckner expire will do will allow us to overpay for an above average player (someone who will fetch more than the MLE).

Wilcox gives us an athletic 4/5 that will compliment Jefferson decently. Jefferson will still be the "Center" but it think it works. At #24 we can get Hardin. Lopez and Ajinca will probably be gone.

We'd still have enough for a max deal free agent, assuming we didn't make Wilcox a new offer after this year -- but that might not be the goal.

rev - you're right of course about using both out expirings, and they match up perfectly. I tried to hold back Buckner to stretch the 125% as tight as I could, and give SEA more incentive with the TPE. However, I think your simpler approach might work better.

This smells like a deal that would work, but we'd need to find a third team that can get at least a little value out of Watson. He's not a horrible vet -- the fact that he's overpaid would just be magnified here, where he'd be useless. Send him, McCants and our #31 to CLE for Snow and their #19 pick? They'd get some production this year from the money they've spent on Snow, who I believe retired.

I dont really think Wilcox would compliment Al very well. He is a big body, but he doesnt bruise people up and his defense is average at best. But if we could work out a deal like the one Rev mentioned I would have to say yes. He is a useful vet that would still be more starter material than any big man that we may draft.

Wilcox is not the perfect fit. He is not even the fit Love would be. But what he would bring is a big body, someone who finishes well. Someone who is an average rebounder also. Not the best fit, but a decent big man.

Wilcox would be a great band-aid. We could still use him.

He is young enough to not be a band-aid. He could be a long term thing if we wanted.
