Sasha Vujacic wants $5.8 million a year

Post#1 » by Lakersfan23 » Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:55 pm

Hold up while I fetch my barfbag...I mean, give me a freakin break - the first 3 years of this guy's career were pure garbage and I, as a Laker fan, couldnt wait for his contract to run out so we could get his ass out of town. All of a sudden, the year before his contract expires, he suddenly blows up and becomes the shooter we always needed. And now he wants the full MLE...motherf!

It's believed that Vujacic's representative will be seeking the full mid-level exception of $5.8 million. "I'm going to be with the team that wants and needs me the most," Vujacic said. "Who it's going to be, I can't say right now at this point. But we'll see."

Because the Lakers will be in luxury tax hell for the next decade, Jerry Buss will essentially be comitting $11.6 million (double-tax) a year for Sasha's services...

I love what Sasha brought but at $11.6 million a year, let me be the first to show you the door, Sasha.

He's barely worth half that.

Maybe he should go overseas, they'll gladly pay him that.
Here, he'll be lucky if he winds up with an even million per year.

Little did he know that his nickname "Machine" has been stripped away after he cried that the Celtics were too rough. Machines never whine. He's definitely not worth the MLE, but seeing as how plenty of undeserving players have been signed for the full MLE, I could see him being signed to that much.

I wouldn't be surprised if he headed back to Europe. Good riddance.

Even Brian Scalabrine gets $3 million a season. I'm sure Sasha knows this.

This isn't good news. It helps the league to have him sucking up a roster spot on the Lakers.

A 5 year MLE deal would start at $5.8 and have 8% increases.

Something close to....

08-09:$5.8
09-10:$6.3
10-11:$6.8
11-12:$7.3
12-13:$7.8

Total 5 years about $33 million

I think some team will give him a deal around 5 mill per year. The Machine has shown that he can play in the big league.

He had a good year, but it was only a year. I'd be worried that is was one of those contract years performances. He hasn't proven enough that I would be comfortable giving him that type of money.

I don't see us giving him more than $4 million.

hilarious how 1 series can change everything...he deserves barely 3 million a year? He should go back to Europe? yea right

I cant stand the guy but the way GMS overpay, he has every right to try to demand the full MLE..he was very good defensively (up until the Finals) and he was one of the best spot up 3 point shooters (until the Finals) in the league. If he is worth only 3 million a year, i hope my team jumps on that.

I don't think 'contract year' can apply to rookies coming on the last year of their deal. Usually the first two years they are getting used to the nba, and it is usually the third year where they break out and show what they got.

Remember, this kid came from overseas and had a lot to adjust to. This was the first year he had a lot of confidence in his shot and was a solid defensive player for season and most of the playoffs.

I don't think it's fair to say a young player like him played well only because of his contract status, I think it's more of his natural progression and as a bball player that allowed him to be more of a contributor. Obviously, it did contribute to his success no doubt, but his success was not solely because of it. I think that phrase usually refers to vets who have been in the league for a while, not players on their rookie deals.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:
