Blackhawks Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by WEFFPIM » Sun Jun 8, 2008 8:49 pm

Should be an interesting offseason for the Hawks. After coming off a surprise season in which they were in the playoff hunt until the final weekend, the Hawks are definitely in a win-now mode, and even moreso with pretty much everyone on the team locked up. Some interesting names on the General Board were thrown out in terms of free agent targets for the Hawks. I mentioned Cristobal Huet, Posey H8er mentioned Brian Campbell, and someone else mentioned Dan Ellis.

I'd love to get a solid goalie in here just because I'm not overly comfortable with the Khabibulin-Lalime combo, but Brian Campbell would be a great pickup.

I don't like Khabibulin-Lalime, but I would like to see Corey Crawford be a backup next year. He looked pretty good last year and he could develop into a starter possibly.

I am pumped for next season. All games are going to be on TV in High Definition and Pat Foley should be calling the games. Plus, the game at Wrigley on January 1, 2009. This upcoming season is going to be exciting.

ESPN The Magazine mentions Wade Redden as a possible target for the Hawks this offseason. Reading up on him, he seems like a poor man's Brian Campbell

The NHL draft is tomorrow. I think it will be on Versus.

Yeah, coverage starts at 6:00 PM on Versus. My guide says that the Blackhawks own the #1 pick in this year's draft for some reason.

If the season started today I think this team could make the 8th spot easy. I'm for (and so are the Hawks) drafting the BPA. A strong defensive presence or another solid scorer would be nice. Free agency could fill some of those needs to. Get it done new Blackhawks!

I like this Canadian announcer. "Some Drama (but sounds like "dramn-a") has gone down!"

Good God do I hate these forums. If you post at the same time as someone else, it doesn't show.

What I said was that Beach seems like a guy you love if he's on your team and hate if he's not.

Rarely do you find a good combination of a tough guy and goal scorer. I don't care about his supposed attitude problems. This team needs a little swagger.

I read somewhere that the asking price for Brian Campbell is $8 million. No way do we even offer that. He's not worth that considering the guys we have that are going to have to be signed down the road

Hawks picked 5 defensemen today.

With the 68th pick Chicago selected Shawn Lalonde, who (from what I have read) is an excellent skater, really fast and will score a lot of points. He needs to gain a lot of weight though.

Wow Huet! I never thought we would go after a goalie. And the Hawks still have a lot of cap money to sign more players. Hopefully Campbell and a B type forward.

Return to Chicago Blackhawks
