Penny overrated? Anyone remember the 95-96' NBA season when Shaq was injured for the first 22 games of the season? The Magic went 17-5 during that time with Penny averaging 27 points, 6.5 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1 block per game and won the NBA's Player Of The Month award.

penny was basically a crude prototype of tracy mcgrady.
definitely worthy of those all-NBA selections, but not the least bit worthy of his "next MJ" title.

Penny was like what Dwayne Wade is right now...a mega-star with great basketball skills, doing awesome classic commercials, and has the potential to be the next great thing in basketball. I hope wade recovers fully and fulfills spot in basketball.
when did wade do awesome commercials? hell the only reason penny's commercials were good b/c of chris rock aka lil penny. i did owe a pair of his shoes though

I love Penny to death and he will always be remembered for his legendary 40-point performances in '97 where only Darrell 'Flash' Armstrong and Gerald Wilkins were contributing in that series, but he has no chance to get in the HOF and it's a damn shame what injuries and horrific O-Town media did to him.
Penny was the most overrated player in the league. He could not even win a championship with Shaq . And when Shaq left Orlando Look how fast his career went downhill.

Grant Hill
Derrick Coleman
Larry Johnson
Kenny Anderson
Jim Jackson
Jamal Mashburn
Shawn Kemp
Allan Houston
All guys with the potential but for various reasons won't get in.
Hill and Kemp are going for sure. Kemp was part of one of the greatest teams in the 90s with the Sonics. Also led them to the Finals, while making numerous all star appearances.
Hill is going to, unlike Penny he had 6 straight seasons where he averaged at least 20pts, 6reb, 6ast. And when going into his prime he was a 23pt, 7ast, 8reb guy. Very good scorer, playmaker, rebounder, he did it all. Would be one of the greatest Small Forwards in league history if it wasn't for his injury. Prolly still ranks up there, but his potential was VERY high.
But the others you listed, I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt it, there really isn't much about them that attracts judges. There just above average players.

Penny's injuries held him back and that's why he's not going to make the HOF. He was exciting to watch and it's ashame he didn't get to stay on the court.

Yup, Penny was a mix of Magic Johnson passing skills, and Michael Jordan athleticism, he would have been one hell of a player in the future, with major potential.
Also I think we should also add Zo to this hall of fame list, I think hes a nod in for sure to, 7-8 strong seasons until he got a major injury just like Hill.

Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:
"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Penny was great but injurys got to him. Is Shawn Kemp a H.O.F? No! Penny had a chance but things changed and now we will only remmber him for the couple of seasons he gave us. Another thing to consider is that, The nba does not have a H.O.F, So if penny would of gone to college for 4 years and been a stud, Then he would of had a chance.

I wish Penny had done enough to be a HOFer but the success of all the swingmen to partner up with Shaq over the last decade mixed with him hurting himself before ever reaching his prime killed his chances. He belongs on any true all-90s team though, and was every kid who grew up in that era's favore player for at least a few years while we grew up.
