If Beasley falls to #3.....

Post#1 » by yunggunz » Sat Jun 21, 2008 2:32 am

The rumors have been swirling about Riley taking Mayo at #2. Obviously A Jefferson and Beasley arent a very good fit because they play the same position and arent great defenders (especially if you make Jefferson play the 5 or Beasley the 3). Still, the talent dropoff is significant after Beasley, so a team would have to pay up to get him. Seattle should be very interested.

This deal makes sense:

Corey Brewer, #3

for

Jeff Green, #4

For Minny: Gets a better compliment for Jefferson in Jeff Green. So far, brewer hasnt shown much and Green looks like he will turn into a stud. Bayless could be a good fit for the pick, as he and Foye would be a highly dynamic back court with both able to play point or off-guard.

For Seattle Green is great, but he plays the same position as Durant. Long term it doesnt make sense to have them both on the same team. This gives them a super compliment to Durant in Beasley, as well as a solid defensive 6th-man type guy in Brewer.

Nah, other than shooting Corey looked real good last year, and the drop off from Beasley to #4 is far greater than the dropoff from Green to Brewer. I might do something like 3+McCants+Madsen for 4+Green+Griffin, and definitely 3+Madsen for 4+Green. I don't see moving Brewer though.

Some people on the Wolves board seem fixated on getting Wilcox in a 3/4 trade, but I'm not one of them.

If Miami wants Mayo over Beasley, they'll trade down to pick him. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they took Mayo #2.

If Miami's picking, we'll take Beasley at 2. But if we trade the pick to LA and its their call, they could take Mayo and let Beasley fall to 3.

By the sounds of recent news, if Mayo goes number 2, it will most likely be in a deal in which he goes to the Clippers and Brand goes to the Heat.

As for the original trade, that's absolutely terrible value for the Wolves.
Jeff Green is a 10 and 5 player with shooting averages of 43% and 28%. On top of that, most of his production came about playing the PF position, something he won't be able to do with Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, and (most likely) Craig Smith on the team.

In comparison Brewer was a 6 and 4 guy on 5% and 8% worse shooting (38 and 20). A pretty sizable difference, but no where near enough to get Seattle Michael Beasley.

Never heard of this rumors that Riley will take Mayo at #2. All I heard about the rumors is Riley likes him but that doesn't mean he will draft him, knowing the best player availbale at #2 could be Beasley.

I disagree that Jefferson and Beasley aren't a very good fit. A PF like Beasley will be a very good compliment to a center like Jefferson.

if the Clipps trade Brand for the #2, they will be left without a PF. Then, they will draft Beasley at #2 and be their PF of the future.

Due to salary reasons, it can't just be a Brand for 2 trade. So, because of that, Miami could send a PF back. An example of a situation would be if the Clippers want to build their post game around Kaman, in which case, I good role-playing PF like Haslem would work very well next Kaman. On top of that, if they want to play a more up-tempo, fast-breaking team, they have their 2007 pick, Al Thornton who can play minutes at the 4.

On top of all of that, there are various reports coming out about the Clippers secretly working out Mayo and others detailing how much the covet him. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved up and took Mayo, and in the same vain, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved up and took Beasley.

You don't trade the best big man prospect unless you get a legit allstar back.

seattle wont be trading green in any deal .kd and green are the only pieces seattle wont use to move up to 3.It all depends on hoiberg and mchale how much love is there for love and lopez in your front office .beasley is pf and general feeling on the minnesota boards that if the wolves want to move jefferson to his natural position pf that cant happen if they keep beasley.I know beasley would fit in minnesota , hell he'd fit anywhere .seattle has picks galore they could dangle at minnesota and any player not kd or green.well just have to wait and see.Personally though beasleys definately going 1 or 2 .mocks have miami at 2 taking beasley , then they trade if they want to .

I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe that Seattle won't trade Jeff Green for Michael Beasley. Durant and Beasley together would be a killer duo, much better then Durant and Green.

I agree they KD and Beasley would be a killer duo but theres a few reasons we keep him.
2nd best player on squad
rookie contract
excellent team player
no 5 pick traded for ray allen
putting up excellent numbers at end season
has gelled with durant
and above all have seattle has draft picks galore presti can use instead.

I have said this numerous times.

If Beasley falls to 3 (from either Mia passing or LAC trade) MN will take him and keep him unless a trade blows them away. In order to blow them away they will need a young starter+draft pick that can get Love or Gallinari (depending on who the starter they get back)

The MN front office appears divided on Beasley, but my understanding is that they take him and run if he falls.

MN will not trade Foye/Al or Brewer. Do not bother putting them into realistic trade situations.

No. Not a chance. Why would we?

The 4th would get a starter, but the 24th and another 2nd is hardly worth much when we have 2 early second rd picks. I do not mean this to insult sir, but "if" MN trades the rights to beasley it will be for 2 starters. 1 via draft (love) and another "young starter" this is not just insider stuff, it has been said in interviews also.

It would take a package including Wilcox and the 4th to start the talk. Even then, it depends on who in the front office makes the final call. They are divided on Beasley right now.

i would definitely do this trade for the sonics. jeff green's a great prospect; like durant he kinda put it all together toward the end of the year and had some nice games. but beasley is likely to be the better player by some margin. moreover, trading green (who is a SF despite what anyone says) would free seattle of perpetuating the dumb notion that kevin durant is a SG.

alternately, to get beasley at #3, i think the sonics could offer minnesota wilcox/phoenix 2010 first rounder/#4 pick if that's any better.

slick,

MN wants a "young starter+high draft pick" (yes..I am quoting) if they are gonna trade down. The phx and wilcox are nice, but I am not sure if that is enough. I guess it depends on what we see of Wilcox, but I doubt he has much value of we are using the draft pick for Love.

I have only hear one Wilcox situation and that was if rose-chi, beas-Mia and Sea loves Bayless. MN trades the 3rd for 4th+wilcox so Sea can take Bayless (it was a cbs thing)

How about this trade if Beasley is there at #3.

Miller, Lowry/Warrick, and the #5

for

Walker, Madsen, and the #3

Minny sheds a poo load of money, gets the best 3-point threat in the NBA, and can pick up a great player still.

Memphis takes on a lot of money but no one signs in Memphis anyway, and they get Beasley.

Walker is a $9 mil expiring, so they don't get the "poo-load" and at a minimum, Mike Miller would have to be sent to a third team to send Minny a piece they could use. I still think MEM would struggle to make an offer that would get Beasley.

Walker could be switched to Jaric...but doesnt Walker have 2-3 years left on his contract...Miller has 2 years left (so says the trade checker) and those years will see twice the production of Walker.
