It happened in Football, why not the NBA?

and what happens when a European club offers way more money than the rookie scale? Then what?

it doesn't happen often.

american players dream about being in the nba. they'll just do the one year and then jump to the nba. they make the money and go to the nba. it's so simple.

Probably because most of those players are high enough risk for them, that it's not feasible. A lot of European teams operate on small budgets.

well navarro and garbajosa both decided to head back to europe instead of playing in the nba. then you have guys like splitter and vasquez who will probably wind up staying there. but that's also because they're used to it. I doubt american players would choose europe over america, unless they were franco- or anglophiles or something.

Did that stop Dirk, Bargs or any other Euro lotto pick?

Fact is they wont make much legal money the year they play in college and risk career ending injury.

U throw 10 mil at a 17 yr old kid and watch what happens

yeah I did say I doubted americans would do it. the money is getting pretty competitive though, at least for fringe guys or rookies.

They would be studying abroad. Not only that they'll be making money for studying the game professionally. They'll undoubtably come home though after a year if they didn't sign some asinine contract.

i can see them doing what jennings is doing. but they would not stay there. 99.9999% of AMERICAN BORN PLAYERS will go to the NBA, unless they got injuried. and even then.

there are so many factors. they'd be back with family, they'd still make millions, and they play in the league they dreamed of playing with.

and they know worse case if they don't do good in the nba, they can always go back. it's not the same in europe.

it's (Please Use More Appropriate Word) we are even discussing this.

Andrea Bargnani was 19yrs old and came here to play, why wouldnt a American player goto Europe for more money?

Italians are known for being very family oriented, what makes Americans less apt to go overseas?

There are probably more Americans playing overseas than playing in the NBA.

If you were 17yrs old and somebody offered you 20mil to play Basketball overseas are you saying you would 100% say no?

the NBA is the most famous basketball league in the entire world. a lot of people aspire to be a great player in the NBA, not in italy. you know that.

and if i was 17 years old, and i know i was talented enough to be a lotto pick, i would say no unless it's a one year deal. if it's more than a one year deal, than i'd go to college or go somewhere else.

the NBA is not like every other basketball league in the world. players around the world aspire to be stars in the NBA, not in italy. american players esp...

Sorry, I call BS on this one. If a team offered you a 4 yr 20 mil contract to play overseas you would do it in a flash. And that would be the smart thing to do.

and the americans playing overseas couldn't cut it in the NBA.

Dont tell Anthony Parker that :)

If I had to say one thing, it would be the guaranteed contracts. Players in football want to make the money before they risk injury.

it wouldn't be that smart. i would want to be near my family and i'd want to play in the NBA, the most competitive and known league in the world. and like i said, if i know i'm a lotto pick, i know i can get the $$$ for the first year in europe, and then still get a decent amount in the NBA.

What do you think all the Foreign players do when they play here?

Stop using the Cliche, this is about money, lots of it.

A Bird in the hand is worth 2 in the Bush

you and your agent would NOT turn down 2o mil dollars and if he did you should fire him
