Why does Memphis need Beasley the most?

If Beasley is available for Minnesota, Kevin McHale should draft him and be thankful for being lucky rather than good.

Wilcox an "unwanted contract"? Or did you get that backwards and were actually refering to Blount's outsized contract.

Hoops23 wrote:Before the Heat consider this trade from Draft Express, Miami will consider the rumored trade of Blount, Cook & Beasley (#2) for Mike Miller, Lowry & #5. Then Miami draft a player that fits a need position like Lopez if Mayo or Bayless are no longer available at #5.

I think that's a better deal than the Sonics would offer, if there's even an offer... but not as good as the rumor we're hearing that sends Beasley, Blount & Banks to the Clippers for Brand.

Hoops23 wrote:Just like I said, it will take a good player to get a good one in return. Quality for quality. The Sonics will not just trade Durant and so does the Heat on Beasley.

A big difference is that the Sonics want Durant, but that doesn't seem to be the case for the Heat & Beasley.

Come on dj, I've never said Wilcox an unwanted contract. Obviously he's '09 expiring contract is a good one. I don't exactly remember, but aren't you the one who's been posting a lot of Wilkins and Watson trade before the Feb. deadline? Not sure about it thats why I'm asking.

I think its not because Miami doesn't like Beasley but because of the lottery day statement of Riley that he will trade the pick. Its more of improving the team and meeting the goal of cap space in the future than Beasley being unwanted.

Hoops, this draft is an interesting situation with about a thousand different possible outcomes. Fun to chat about. Especially with folks with sincere & different perspectives from other cities. At the end of the day, from the Seattle perspective, it's likely...
- Wilcox is available
- Watson is not the Sonics' PG of the future, but he is a proven decent veteran
- Miami prefers to leverage the #2 pick into more than Beasley
- Miami would really prefer Brand
- Miami's going to decide soon regarding Marion but it's unclear what that'll be
- Minnesota will decide between Love & Mayo
- Seattle will be able to at least draft Bayless regardless
- New York wants Bayless
- Seattle may prefer Westbrook over Bayless
- Seattle may prefer trading Wilcox to move up their #24 pick

While it's also true Seattle may be interested in Beasley, I doubt it. Presti was trained in the Spurs organization. The same work ethic & character issues that are causing Riley concern about Beasley would come across as flashing red neon warning lights & disaster alert sirens to Presti. I could be wrong, but this Beasley to Seattle for half the team's assets scenario is not what's going to happen.

I agree DJ. Presti is still trying to establish his reputation in the league. I cannot see him using all his chips in the game to go after one guy. He needs the future first round picks to execute additional trades. Four firsts and two solid players for Beasley is way too much. The worst case is we stand pat and take Bayless at four. Sometimes the best trades are the ones you do not make. I would be happy with Mayo, Bayless, Westbrook Love or Lopez. The other picks should net another good player.

HeavyP wrote:Rev, how happy would Minnesota be with Beasley? I'd think you guys would try to trade it to Memphis as they clearly NEED Beasley the most. You'd probably be able to get way more from Memphis then you could Seattle. This then leads to you being able to draft Love at 5

Our front office (7 people basically) are divided on Beasley. Some people see him as a stud SF prospect. A perfect offensive fit to our team. Some people see him as a bust. A player that will get his 20/10 but will not lead you anywhere. Will not buy into the team concept. I had some text exchanges this morning with someone who is very pro-Beasley and all I know is that they are still 50/50 on him.

That being said if he is there we take him. Whether we keep him or sell him to the highest bidder is a different story. I have a feeling something is in the works. Some of my people are very tight lipped right now.
