Post#1 » by smoothie » Sun Jun 22, 2008 10:31 pm

On top of page 2 is my new post with the updated draft board.

please remember:

use knowledge of recent reports from the team you follow most closely, please form an educated guess as to whom your team will select and why.

you're reason should include whatever repors, articles, or quoted lead you to your conclusion.

this is not about who you want your team to draft, but who you think they want to draft given the situation below.

Based on the way that draft has played out, I think the pick has to be Gallinari.

It will in all likleyhood be either Alaxander or Gallinari.

In that situation it'll be Gallinari for sure . Makes most sense.

pretty unanimous here. what makes you guys all so sure it's gallinari? has kiki or rod said anything to make you think they like him over a guy like alexander, or robin lopez?

Everything I've been reading about Robin is that we've been thinking about moving DOWN a few spots to take him...not at 10. I think that Gallinari is our pick at 10 if he's there and we don't trade the pick. I also think we're not moving from that spot unless we're getting an offer we can't pass up. Now, I think we're gonna be trying to move #21 like our lives depended on it personally. From what I read last week, Thorn and Kiki were talking about there is only like a 5-9% success rate of players being taken past #20 that ever are more than a bench player. I think if we can't make a deal, we'll take a raw guy (Hickson) and try better to develop him then the last batch of rookies we've had, but if we can get a solid vet who can improve our bench in a need position, we're gonna ship that pick out fast.

I want Alexander (I bet Prelude will protest haha), but Thorn and Kiki will probably end up with Gallinari if he's available at 10.

Haha I'm fine with Alexander. I'm a Big East basketball fan so from seeing him, I like what he brings to the table a lot and think he'd fit into our team pretty well. He reminds me of a more athletic Hedo actually more than Gallinari if Alexander could develop his jump shot a little better.

If we don't go big (with this draft look like #10 is a prime position for a SF), I'd be happy with Alexander if Gallinari is off the board. I think that'd be a good, smart pick for our team. But if Gallinari is there, I think we're taking him without a doubt and would be happy with that pick as well.

Going with Joe Alexander is somewhat tempting but I'll stick with Danilo Gallinari.

I get this feeling that Darrel Arthur is going to be the guy they will be picking and would pick a guy like CDR, Chalmers or even Lee at the 21st. I think that they would go with a better big first and somehow a talented guard or SF would land to us the following pick.

But i'd also be fine with Joe or Danilo with the 1st pick.

From everything I've seen, read, and heard, the guy that I most covet for the Nets (that has a reasonable chance of being available at 10) is Alexander. His relatively late start in the game is well-documented, and the trajectory of his improvement during his college career alone suggests he easily has the most "upside" of any lottery prospect.

But beyond that, because of his unique combination of length, strength, (out-benched nearly EVERYONE at the combine, including Joey Dorsey) midrange touch, all-world athleticism, and legendary, unsurpassed work ethic and fierce competitive drive, he is as "can't miss" as anyone possibly could be. All of the qualities that are slight knocks at this point -- not enough range on the jumper, not as laterally quick defensively as you'd like, not a great ball handler -- will come with additional work, instruction, and time. And given the sharp upward curve of his progress thus far, it won't take long for any of those things to catch up to the rest of his game.

If by some miracle both he and Gallinari were on the board at 10, I'd take Alexander easily, and that's not to denigrate Gallinari, who I realistically would be satisfied with if Alexander is gone by 10. Love, if he somehow tumbled all the way down, is the only conceivably available player who I would take ahead of Alexander, and that only because he could definitely help the Nets more than Alexander in the next two years. By the time they're at and beyond year 5, I think Alexander will wind up the definitively better player.

Hey guys! i'm back for your input on #21.

Here's how the draft has played out so far:

1. Chicago - Rose
2. Miami - Beasely
3. Minnesota - Mayo
4. Seattle - Bayless
5. Memphis - Love
6. New York - Westbrook
7. LA Clippers - Gordon
8. Milwaukee - B.Lopez
9. Charlotte - Randolph
10. New Jersey - Gallinari
11. Indiana - Augustin
12. Sacramento - Arthur
13. Portland - Alexander
14. Golden State - Rush
15. Phoenix - R.Lopez
16. Philadelphia - Jordan
17. Toronto - Hibbert
18. Washington - Greene
19. Cleveland - Koufos
20. Denver - Chalmers
21. New Jersey - ??

don't forget to provide a reason why you think your teams management will draft player x given the situation above. please don't just post a name of a player, those are usually ignored for a more intelligent / in depth reply.

Definitely Speights. One ready big and one good 3. Definitely Speights. This was the only name I looked for. If he's there at 21, we take him.

Speights without a doubt.

a 2/3 and a bigman that can score, exactly what we need.

Speights or J.J Hickson are the most likely .

I'll say Hickson i like him more then Speights but thats just me.

If the Nets take Gallinari at #10 they need a big at #21 and these two provide the most upside to become very good . Both have shown they can be very productive offensive players that can score inside and also have a jumper ( and we need an offensive big ) . Both may need some time but i'm more comfortable with these then i would be with McGee .

Best Available player would be Courtney Lee & I think he's definitely on their radar. However, I think they'll go with a big with potential if they went SF first: Speights.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
