Let's Push Through It Together...

Post#1 » by LBPTarHeel27 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 3:00 pm

Now that the NBA season is officially over, we have a long & hard offseason ahead of us. There are some important dates coming up pretty soon that are going to heavily contribute to how we progress next season.

2008 U.S. Men's Basketball Roster Released
June 23rd

Dwight will no doubt be on the Roster and hopefully he can continue to work on the points of his game in which he needs improving. Playing with such good talent around him can only help. Maybe he can talk some in to eventually coming here (wishful thinking).

The 2008 NBA Draft
June 26th on ESPN @ 7 PM

This is just barely over a week away. We have blown in it recent years, can we get some one who can contribute off the bench? Will we buy a 2nd round pick (or trade for one)? Some one needs to get on setting up the Mock Draft game.

2008 NBA Free Agency Begins
July 1st @ 12 AM teams can begin talking to players/July 11th Players can sign contracts

We have to do some damage here. It will be very interesting to see if free agents treat us differently now that Dwight has emerged as a true superstar and we are on our way to becoming a contender.

2008 NBA Summer League Begins
July 7-11
With Gortat, Redick, a 1st Round pick, and hopefully a 2nd round pick that we get our hands on...we will have a lot to watch in the summer league. Hopefully all four guys can contribute (more wishful thinking).

I doubt that JJ plays in the summer league. I get the feeling that he might think he is above it. I expect Gortat to be there. Maybe even Rakovic and hopefully our draft pick/s.

Howard is not going to be working on those problem areas like free throw shooting, getting the ball out without turnovers when he is double teamed. And lastly working on getting over pouting like he did some times in the playoffs and too often in the regular season. Didn't y'all know Howard is on strike from basketball and doesn't plan to work out until Team USA starts working out.
Name me a player sitting on some bench in the NBA that plays in the Summer League after playing in the Summer League for the first two seasons I can't find any so why should Redick.
He did great last summer league and what did it get him. A lot of praise from SVG and promises for play in the future, but in truth it got him nothing. So let the guy get a rest from the BS and let him do his own workout program. When the season rolls around Redick will most likely be in the best shape of any player on the team.

All I'm excited about is the draft.

And the FA kinda, but I don't expect a big pickup.. hopefully it's somebody that will help us not like Dan Dickau or something.

Do you realize the amount of beating Dwight Howard takes in a season, much less a longer season with the 10 playoff games and he worked on his game all summer last year. He hasn't stopped working on his game since he came into the league. He deserves a month rest before playing alongside/against the best players in the world. I'm not going to say anything negative about him taking a month off. He won't be taught as well individually playing for the team as he would if he stayed over here, but spending time with the superstars hopefully will rub off on him. He was making some strides of becoming a leader this year as compared to the year before. I'd be mad if he said he was taking the entire summer off. I'm sure he'll still be working out and keeping in shape, but he is resting mentally and he deserves the rest.

Even if JJ's is over it, he hasn't played big minutes in organized basketball in over a year. It's a much different animal from doing your own workouts to playing in game situations regardless of the competition level. Do you really think SVG would be more impressed with him by doing his own workouts or playing/showing leadership with the other young guys on the Magic team. Start developing chemistry, show them the ropes, etc. Start showing the intangibles and not that he's a whiny baby who continuously demands trades. If we draft a big man #22 I don't see any reason what so ever for him not to play in the summer league. I can see him not wanting to play if we draft a guy like Lee(although Lee can run point at times), since Lee would be the one we would try to showcase.

Correct me if I am wrong...but didn't Cleveland have pretty much their whole starting roster in the summer league during LeBron's rookie year? I just remember Darius Miles being out there along with other veterans (bad veterans).
