OT: George Carlin dies

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He was 71.

"He was a genius and I will miss him dearly," Jack Burns, who was the other half of a comedy duo with Carlin in the early 1960s, told The Associated Press

He was one of the greatest comics ever. May he RIP.

When I first read his death notice on the news wires, I had to look up "fart" on wikipedia. One of those no-no words from the FCC that makes no sense at all.

Logical satire at its finest. I actually saw him perform in Orlando in the mid-80s. Was funny then, ten years after his seven-words comedy. But he was pretty harsh with his language at that time (as was Robin Williams; the 80's were all about the F*** bomb and its many uses).

Carlin is a legend that will keep being a reference for many of the best comedians.
As far as stand up comedy goes he was by far the most sharp, intelligent man I've ever seen perform (not live, never got the chance to do it, but I saw every single bit of footage that was ever released from him).

Not only was he incredibly funny, but he made you think about things. One of the smarterst human beings ever.

I'm gonna miss that guy.

LOL at all the RIP comments. Carlin would've had a field day with all the RIP-type comments people are giving him after he passed. Oh, the irony.

I saw him a few years ago in Biloxi, MS and he was terrible. He was trying out new material and kept forgetting what he wanted to say. With that said, he was one of my favorite comedians ever in his prime. I liked his cutting edge style. God's speed George.

"I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately

He wasn't my favorite comedian but he's def. my top5. Jay and silent bob strike back is priceless Carlin. Man, Prior, Carlin, Burns, I never thought I'd see these guys go. RIP George I'll keep crossin that line for ya.
Whether you think you CAN or you think you CAN'T, you're right.

heh.

i just don't have the heart for that.

i would like to think that the george carlin that did children's programs on PBS (anyone remember this? jj the jet plain?) would appreciate the condolences even if the george carlin that did brash, in-your-face comedy from a skeptic's/atheist's perspective wouldn't.
