OT: **The Official Movies/TV/Media Topic**

Post#1 » by Calinks » Tue Jun 17, 2008 12:49 am

I tried to find the old one but it got erased. It's been awhile and there are/have been a lot of good movies as of late. What's everybody liking and not liking? Any suggestions?

I just saw In Bruges and the film was surprisingly very good. It's funny but also serious. Quality little film. Been loving the latest superhero movies.

I saw Iron Man. It was pretty good, like a B.

I haven't seen Incredible Hulk, but *spoiler*---> he saves the world at the end

Anyone else see Beast with a Billion Backs yet? On the whole I liked it, but not as much as Bender's Big Score.

I haven't see it or the first one yet, but I want to. I'll probably wait till they're all out then buy the whole quartet or at least download DVD quality rips. I know thats not proper, but the only alternative would be to drive a pickup through the front door of Best Buy, grab the DVD set, and start smoking tires outta there. By downloading them I'm saving lives and a hero.

It's not in stores 'till next week, but it's been available as a torrent for at least few days now. (I'm still gonna buy it; gotta patronize so they keep making more)

I blame Futurama for the downfall of The Simpsons.

I blame 19 years on the downfall of the Simpsons. You can only do soo much, and they did all they could. there is no way you can keep something like that fresh for 19 years, you just cant.

I realize that, but The Simpsons started to go downhill around season 10 or 11, when Futurama first came out.

Simpsons was funny when they hid moralistic plots behind subtle, or edgy (at the time) humor. Like the Lisa the Vegetarian episode and the Bart stealing episode, and Marge becoming a cop, etc, they had lots of episodes in the first 8 years or so where the Simpsons were for the most part connected to reality, despite being goofy.

Now its just cheap appeal - off the wall nonsense or rehashing characters from past popular episodes - "Look, its Disco Stu for some reason!" - or guest characters of flavor of the day stars. Yea, that Kid Rock episode is gonna be great in 40 years.

I used to really like Simpson's but I hardly ever watch it anymore. I might see an episode or two a year now. It's not because I feel its less funny or anything I just lost interest.

I have been on another moving watching roll. Within the last week I watched Be Kind Rewind, Magnolia, Vantage Point, Oldboy. Vantage Point was pretty weak with tons of plot holes but I found it unintentionally funny at some points and still enjoyed myself. Oldboy is nuts, it's a crazy Korean revenge flick. If anyone wants to see something different but really good and extremely memorable I'd suggest you watch Oldboy. YOU WONT forget it. I'll tell you that much.
