McHale's rebounding numbers are nothing to sneeze at. Especially when you consider he also has Parish and Bird snatching a bunch of rebounds. He was GREAT defender. KG is obviously a much better passer than the Black Hole. But when the Black Hole is shooting 60% can you blame him for that? Why is he going to kick it out to some guard/forward for a lower percentage shot!?! Having McHale on your team is like stealing candy from a baby.

Garnett is awesome, no doubt, but McHale could flat out take over games and put up some ridiculous numbers at a time when the league had fewer teams and the overall quality of competition was at its highest point. Garnett certainly could have been a great player then, but a guy like McHale would be a monster in today's NBA, especially in the post.

We can have the discussion, sure, but I have a sneaking suspicion most of the people voting in this poll are 25 yrs old and under...

If you don't like MVP voting, then how about All NBA-teams. Kevin McHale was all-NBA 1st team once, KG has been 4 times.

Sure, KG has made it more times, it a weaker, more talent-diluted league. And for you to say McHale wasn't a good rebounder or defender is ludicrous. KG is a great player, no doubt, but McHale scored more (and better), was an excellent rebounder and defender, and was absolutely unguardable in the post. You must be 20 yrs old or something to have never seen McHale in his prime (1980 to 1987). This is like the people 5 years ago who said Shaq was as good or better than Wilt and Russell and Kareem. But it's an unwinnable debate, so oh well.

I didn't call McHale a poor defender or a poor rebounder, I just said Garnett is better at both, which he is. Just like McHale was a better scorer but KG is still a pretty good scorer. I am old enough to have seen McHale in his prime.
McHale also never made 2nd team all-NBA, KG has 3 2nd team all-nba's.

McHale's top rebounding year was 9.9 per game, compared to KG's 13.9. Sure the Celtics had Parish and Bird grabbing rebounds, but they also were playing at a much faster pace. There were more rebounds to be had.

Clearly this will never be resolved. However, it should be noted that McHale has 3 rings in 5 trips to the Finals...KG has some work to do to catch up (which I think could happen...I'm already thinking of #18!!)
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
