Would be intriguing if say Robin Lopez were to drop. But, like Hibbert, that is unlikely to happen. His stock is somewhat rising I think.

well team needs.
1. Backup center with length (assuming pj doesn't stay)
2. Backup sg who can shot even remotely (assuming ta leaves)
3. Backup sf if posey does not stay (think he will be our fa money)
so that means we have to get first 2 with draft and LLE type deal.
I say we get backup center min 6'11 in draft, or trade for one.
I'd love to get diop for LLE though, but it won't happen. How about sign and trade scal and our first for diop?

I'd read the other day that Diop hopes to resign with New Jersey.

We're going to move up in the draft I believe. 20-25 range and take Hibbert if he's still there.

^^^ Hibbert's bust factor is off the scale and first rounders get guaranteed money. That's why guys like him could drop to us and BEYOND. Fredick Weis and other slug giants have failed in the NBA. I can't imagine Danny trading up to him. Big manitis is something we have for the most part succesfully avoided. We shouldn't start now.

I don't know that hibbert will be there. If Ainge is going to draft a guy based on his college numbers then he isn't drafting harden. Possibly the guy with the impressive stats left at this pick in the draft could ryan andersen. IN the draft preview they compare him to turkglu which is probably a better comparison than austin croshere. Also backup center may not be as much of a need as people think because we can resign scot pollard for the minium again after the surgies which corrected ankkle problem he should be good to go.

...Serge Ibaka is getting a TON of attention right now...he's got lotto-level talent, but he's not coming overseas for 1-2 years and is considered a 3+ year project...he's the player i'd target if I was looking for long-term upside...
Hibbert is a sure-fire backup center IMO...he's probably not going to be any better than a marginal starter at best, but he's got size and some solid skills...at 30 you just can't expect much more from a big--its the LEAST likely position to get value in that low in the draft...
Giddens/Hairiston/Foster are wings i'd love to snag with a 2nd round pick...if Boston can get two of Portland's 2nd rounders, that would be tremendous...the team could get a couple of players to develop behind the current core and they'd be ready to contribute nicely 2-3 years from now once they're really needed..
Don't expect a star out of this draft spot-though there are sure to be 3-4 gems in the 2nd round this year IMO...Ainge usually hits the mark...we'll get someone, but not someone likely to contribute next season...
The FA market is where the team will make its short-term impact...all rookies are going to be sitting and watching...

Your fingers were way ahead of your brain there.
1. Josh Howard is a Euro?
2. It's unusual to get contributors in the first or second round of the draft?

3. If you meant "late first round or second round" -- Rondo and Perk don't count?
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

No, what the poster likely meant was that players such as Parker and Howard were bargains that turn into steals for a contending team as the last selection in the draft. And Ginobili was a late second round selection. Teams that are deep and are selecting at the near bottom of the first round can afford to take chances more so than a lottery team. But, I get the sense that Ainge prefers to pick in the second round trading a high first round pick twice under his tenure in the front office. If there isn't a player that addresses a need or is a best value choice that fancies Ainge. He should trade the pick for another second round pick or a future pick or use this first round pick to help acquire a veteran player at a position of need on th roster. Seattle has four second round picks.
