Who do the Timberwolves take at #3?

Post#1 » by R33D33 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 11:18 am

The plan is to go to every board and ask fans who they want to pick pending on who is left on the board.

If...

Bulls- Rose
Heat- Beasley

Who do the Timberwolves take here?

Beasley.

Shawn Marion didn't opt out yesterday, so this will encourage Riley to trade the #2 for Brand, and throw Wade-Marion-Brand out there as his own Big Three. I think LAC uses the #2 to pick Mayo, not Beasley, because of fit and star quality.

"I've got one of those. I'm not going to share it with you ... Up until now, there have been a lot of people throwing some stuff out there. It'll get more serious today and tomorrow. On Thursday, you'll get a good offer," McHale said.

In other words, I expect the right deal to come where we'll be trading down (pretty clear-cut if you read the last sentence). I agree with his take here. I really expect us to get a very good player in the process of trading down. I think McHale wants to acquire a big man in the trade, and Beasley falling to 3 would really help that. Then, we'd slide down and draft the BPA. I think Gallinari is the player they really like best overall. They been scouting him for a couple years.

Another scenario suggest we trade down with focus on aquiring an expiring veteran contract for Walker to help clear space for a FA in 2009. Then have that trade asset for the trade-deadline this upcoming season. ThIs can be risky if you move down and pass up a franchise player, but really, there are no guarentees regardless the route we take.

ESPN analyst's seem to think there are more Beasley-type players out there than PG's like Rose. I agree, but a combo guard like Mayo makes it a closer call versus Beasley IMO. I'd bet Miami is having real issues trying to select the right one and hope to pass us the Old Maid.

Mayo

Personally I prefer to keep Mayo. We would potentially because a Heat trade partner by default. Unfortunately, if McHale decides to grab Love or Lopez, at least we can trade down...

I still say we should draft Mayo at 3 but if the right deal comes along I'm ALL for it. We could get a good player for trading down and another good player in the draft. You have to think something like bogut and gallinari etc. is better than just mayo. But you never know cuz mayo has that superstar potential. It's probably going to be a tough call for the FO depending on what kind of offers we get. I'm just excited for draft night; anything could happen.

Mayo.

But this didn't really need its own thread, there are a dozen with the same gist.
