RealGM fan mock draft: Sixers on the clock!

Post#1 » by smoothie » Tue Jun 24, 2008 3:25 pm

using knowledge of recent reports from the team you follow most closely, please form an educated guess as to whom your team will select and why.

this is not about who you want your team to draft, but who you think they want to draft given the situation below.

after posting this thread in every board leading up to yours, i've got this Draft Board:

1. Chicago - Rose
2. Miami - Beasely
3. Minnesota - Mayo
4. Seattle - Bayless
5. Memphis - Love
6. New York - Westbrook
7. LA Clippers - Gordon
8. Milwaukee - B.Lopez
9. Charlotte - Randolph
10. New Jersey - Gallinari
11. Indiana - Augustin
12. Sacramento - Arthur
13. Portland - Alexander
14. Golden State - Rush
15. Phoenix - R.Lopez
16. Philadelphia - ??

i'm very interested to read your responses! you're on the clock!

don't forget to provide a reason why you think your teams management will draft player x given the situation above. please don't just post a name of a player, those are usually ignored for a more intelligent / in depth reply.

Based on the Pol I put up yesterday- I think it is prety clear that the Sixers Board would take Speights.

I would say speights as well.

(although I'm beginning to get a fear it may be Jordan).

the major difference being you asked "who would be your pick?"

i am asking you to think about who the team likes based on reports / interviews given from recent workouts, and to take your personal preference out of the equation.

Speights may very well end up being the pick here too, but the rationale is much different.

i'm getting the vibe too. i heard they like jordan and then sf said they might trade down to dump salary. it makes senseto trade back, pick up jordan and a pick. make the run for brand. I wouldn't be happy but in tony d i trust. plus if we get brand...i won't really care if we have superior level bust potential out of our pick.

Marreesse Speights...

He fits a dire need we have @ the 4...fits in with the style of play we have here and has said he likes the team.I also think management likes him and i believe they have him coming in for a 2nd workout...
Its tough to pass on the upside of DeAndre Jordan despite his "bust" lable but i think the 76ers would nab Speights.

probably nothing more than the current specualtion woth Jordan falling out of the top 15 picks.
add this in with a few updated mocks slotting us with Jordan and the recent workout with Philly and it has people suddenly thinking Jordan could be the guy come Thurs.

Fair enough.

The few times the beat writers have mentioned who is the frontrunner they have said Koufos.

So, I'd say at this point they are most likely to pick Koufos (theough not who I would chose.)
---
Despite reading most of what is out there, I don't think it is clear who they would pick. Definitely appears like they have narrowed it down to Speights, Koufos and Jordan- but they could change their minds after the big workout today featuring Darrell Arthur, Marreese Speights, Jason Thompson and Alexis Ajinca: http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Wor ... g-Up-2940/

so nothing really convincing from the team's side? mostly just popular speculation?

TK summed things up pretty well.No ones really hearing anything and theres a BIG workout here today with all possible selections @ 16 in Ajinca,Thompson,Arthur and a 2nd workout wit Speights so things could change,But it seems to be narrowed down to
Speights,Koufous and Jordan as of right now...Speights being the favorite of most on this board.

I'll have to guess Jordan. Tony Delio really likes super athletes looking at Andre, Carney, Lou Will, Thad, Sammy, even Willie. The mock drafts say that Jordan is this type of athlete.

In addition, they keep saying a big man who may not contribute right away, which also makes me think Jordan, although that could be any rookie.

However, Eddie has final say and keeps praising Kosta, who is a shooting center like Krstic.

Nonetheless, Speights seems to be the best fit.

I say Speights. He fits both the best player available and team need. The knocks on him, motivation and defense, I believe the Sixers think that coaching and team chemistry will shore those up.
Don't worry, that builds character and you can never have too much character...

i'd love to be able to come back to this tomorrow and see if there was any word on how that workout went. however, i need to move on soon so i can finish the first round before the draft.

since id like to reach some sort of conclusion with you guys today, i'd take a strong look at that group coming in and say this is too high for thompson and ajinca. the workout is probably to see arthur and speights go at it.

and on this draft board arthur is already gone.

from what i've read in this thread alone, it seems to be down to those 3 guys (koufos, jordan, and speights.

i would wonder though, why bring in speights a second time if they keep praising koufos?

I wouldn't dismiss ajinca at this point. I could definitely see him going in the 13-18 range.

I'm going to guess Jordan (not saying that's who I want).

I think the order right now might be...
1 - D. Jordan
2 - M. Speights
3 - K. Koufos
