He still would like to play in the NBA.

Now, the problem is that his new contract has certainly a buy-out, and it would all depend on his value, maybe more than his salary.

I don't think we'll ever see DA in a Hawks uni.

if he has a buyout then maybe the Hawks can get a second rounder for him from someone like the Blazers. They like Euro players, they have a ton of second rounders. And Andersen wouldn't count a dollar against the cap until they signed him. So that would let them maximize their caproom next offseason, then bring him over with part of the MLE in a season or something like that.

If he has a buyout we should trade him to a team that will pay for him and we can get something in return.

good point...However I don't know enough about how good he is to justify saying this but with no draft picks do you trade Chill, or Josh to get him over here? Strictly a dollars game and what me might get in return.

Would Anderson be a top 10 Center in the NBA? He's top 5 in Europe I think is fare to say...

Just another thought with all this talk about him lately would indicate that perhaps Atlanta is seriously considering their options with the draft right around the corner and this talk could quantify into building his value as trade bait to a team like Dallas, Phx. or maybe Seattle?

Sund also has a history with foreign players and is more likely to attempt to maximize the value of Andersen instead of throw him a low ball number hoping he takes it like BK has and would have done.
Andersen is a ripe fruit and should not be left to rot on the vine. :-?

But he has an out-clause in his contract to join Atlanta if they are prepared to match the multi-million dollar deal he has signed in Italy.

WTF...? Barcelona is the capital of Spain. :D

Saw it too, but it is possible that Andersen was in Italy at the moment he signed his contract.

Anyway, you made a little mistake: the capital of Spain is Madrid, not Barcelona.

The funny thing is that Barcelona is in a region called Catalunya and is the "capital" of that region, and lots of people want it to be independent from Spain. So Barcelona is a kind of capital for some Spanish people.

I am not a Spain specialist, so if I said anything wrong, feel free to correct me ;)

Sorry, It was my mistake.

Anyway .. I don't think Andersen will be a Hawk. He will earn to much in Barcelona, and they are building a Euroleague final four team there. (Navarro has signed with them to)

Not that it matters now but Hollinger says that DA projects to have a PER of 15 in the NBA... would be nice to have.

I stand by what I said years ago and that David is just not comfortable coming over here. He also needs to prove himself over here first but instead he just wants us to write him a gigantic check.

Someone is willing to write him a gigantic check to play basketball. Why should he take a small check to play somewhere else? IF the NBA isn't paying more money then really the players just don't have motivation to come over. ANd its not like he would come over for one season then get paid- he would be RFA for 3 seasons. I think he would be pretty dumb to take less money to come over.

The times have changed and the old motivation of accept a small contract to prove yourself against the best and really cash in are gone. Andersen could make as much if not more staying in Europe where he's proven. And unlike an American who would be staying close to home, he was already playing a half a world away from his home in Australia where he chose Europe or America.

The other factor to consider is that we aren't talking about competing with bush league operations or questionable locales anymore. He's leaving his team in Moscow to join a team in Barcelona. Moscow is huge and Barcelona is an urban area of about 5 million people on the coast of the Mediterrean and was an Olympic city as well (92).

Again, I'm more upset that we didn't parlay his rights to help our depth than anything else. We should have realized that we weren't realistically bidding in the same range.
