Knicks/Wolves
The Knicks have been mentioned as one of the potential trading partners for the Wolves...
On espn this morning there was a rumor of the Knicks trading Lee to Memphis for the 5th pick in the draft.
Now the Knicks fans are mulling over a deal of picks #5 and #6 to the Wolves for #3 to get Mayo in NYC.
There appears to be limited legitimacy to this, but nonetheless would be an interesting thought if this was presented to the Wolves on Thursday...

Am I wrong here--- I thought the Lee rumor was Lee AND #6 for #5...
If not,
100% of Wolves fans would say yes and laugh all the way to the bank.

Yeah, the rumor is Lee AND 6 for 5. But if NY somehow managed to pick up #5 and #6, Wolves would probably have to say yes.

Re: Knicks/Wolves
Here's the info directly from espn's Andy Katz...
A potential deal with Memphis and New York apparently has some legs. The Knicks, who have the No. 6 pick, would get the Grizzlies' No. 5 pick and give David Lee and other considerations to Memphis. New York would then select UCLA's Russell Westbrook and Italy's Danilo Gallinari with its No. 5 and No. 6 picks. If Memphis selects UCLA's Kevin Love, that is a strong indicator that the Grizzlies are keeping the pick.
Not sure if this trade is possible, but it could set up some interesting dialogue between Donnie and Kevin!

Re: Knicks/Wolves
Without a doubt, MN would/should do #3 for #5 and #6. Should be a no brainer. I am sure MN would have to throw in another pick (Boston 09, #31, #34, or something) and still do it.
I think the Memphis deal would require a bit more, but I heard Memphis wanted out of contracts, so something may be possible since NY typically doesn't have issues taking on contracts.

Re: Knicks/Wolves
Makes no sense for Memphis to do that, typical Knicks fans fail to see other side of the spectrum. Whatever Memphis gets at 5 will be a better player then David Lee, which is likely Kevin Love.

Re: Knicks/Wolves
Seems like after the Gasol deal most of the media is reporting stupid deals for Memphis. Lee is a nice player, but not worth #5. I could maybe see Lee and Crawford for a salary dump of Cardinal and #5. But taking on more salary is supposedly against the new Knicks plan if they want to make a run at LBJ.

DAVID LEE for number 5? Just because he's New York's best player doesn't mean he's really all that great. He excels at what he does, but he's not some irreplaceable cog to a championship machine or anything.

If David Lee and junk can get you five then why wouldn't we send them McCants/walker for the five and cardinal other cap unfriendlies. That way Memphis gets an expiring and a starting two guard and we draft Mayo at three and Love at the five.
Foye/Bassy
Mayo/Jaric
Gomes/Brewer
Al/Maddog
Love/Richard/FA center
Works for me. I doubt anyone could get the five so cheaply.

Re: Knicks/Wolves
My Knicks/Wolves deal:
Walker (exp.)/McCants/#3 (Mayo)
for
Curry/Lee/#5 (Gallinari), future 1st
I know that's not going to be real popular on this board, but I think a team with multiple holes like the Wolves should consider it. Curry has been a disappointment, but he's still only 26. He's never been truly in shape and he's always played in large markets (Chicago then New York.) In MN he wouldn't be a savior... hell, he wouldn't even necessarily be a starter. Maybe he'd respond well to a more reduced role. If he doesn't, he's only under contract for two more seasons anyway. He'd be off the books by the time the Wolves needed to pay Foye, Brewer and/or Gallinari.
I also think Gallinari is a better fit with the Wolves building blocks (Jefferson, Foye, Brewer) than Mayo. He's less likely to bolt for a large market at the end of his rookie deal, as Mayo might. Mayo is the better prospect right now, but Gallinari fits better and this deal would bring in two young bigs to complement Al.

Re: Knicks/Wolves
I don't subscribe to the whole mayo will bolt to a larger market. we would still owe his rights and it is unlikely that some other team will be able to pay more for his services. Plus, if you are a great player...you are great player, he will still get plenty of endorsements. Should all talented players go to LA or NY...that would make for a real competition...09 finals ny vs la...10' ny vs la...11' ny vs la....getting my point.

Im not so sure about that. After hearing that Gallinari was ready to pull out of the draft if NY or NJ didnt take him and Mayo directly saying himself he had no problem playing here, I think Gallinari would be on the first plane out of Minny if given the chance.

There in the video Gallinari says it doesn't matter where he goes, the NBA is his dream.
http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/wo ... 80621.html
There, Jim Stack says:
Q: On whether or not Wolves brass asked Gallinari if he would be willing to play in Minnesota:
Stack: We asked those questions... He said (his comments) were taken out of context. He said, because of the large Italian population in New York and New Jersey, that it would be a place that we would really love to play in. (The media) took it like he only wants to play in these two locations, which he never said. He cleared that up right away ... We talked about that at length and we feel really comfortable that he would be excited to come to Minnesota and play. We told him what a great city it is, and I believe it is ... He's a terrific kid, so I was really pleased with how he presented himself.
If you re-read his statements, he said that he likes both New York and New Jersey and he's working out for them, he says he's not sure about the other teams. That's kind of ambiguous. Most likely he meant that he did not know who else he was working out for. Plus, who knows what the full context of those quotes were, there's a thread on this board somewhere about Mayo and someone posted some Mayo quotes from the Yahoo article on his New York workout that made it sound like he especially wanted a big market like New York. I posted the video of that interview when taken in context it turned out that the kind of spliced together quotes from different questions and clearly twisted the meaning of his words. He actually danced around the question of liking New York. Who knows the real context of Gallinari's quotes, unless there's a video of that interview somewhere.
Gallinari DEFINITELY never said he was about to pull out of the draft if he wasn't going to be taken by New York or New Jersey unless there's something I haven't seen.

There are more people involved in that Knick/Grizz deal and the only way that deal has a chance of happening is if Love is not available at 5(which I doubt happens).

Thanks for the info. I knew that Gallinari himself never said it, but I hadnt seen that he denied it either, so I was still unsure about whether the reports were solidified or not.

Re: Knicks/Wolves
Wow, yea, there would need to be more players involved. Memphis gets punked on that deal.
To answer the OP. If we could trade the #3 for the 5th and 6th I would have to say it depends on 2 things.
1.) That we do not have much of a difference between mayo and the other guys. We do not see Mayo as a stud. I have a feeling we do. I hear Hoiberg is in love with him as a prospect. His shot, his BBIQ, his hustle. Hoiberg is high on the kid.
2.) Gallinari and Love would need to be available. After Mayo those are the two guys we like. They fill our two biggest needs and I could see us making that deal.
But, as I noted. Horrible deal for Memphis.
