Sixer Fixer:

Others would know this better than me, but the only way that we get the extra cap room is if we renounce Iggy - i.e. walk away...no tender option.

I would be happy to be wrong about this, though.

No - I was talking about next year. If he signs the 1 yr tender THIS YEAR (I think around 3 million), he will become a UFA next year. We will still have his bird rights next year though. That gives us the right to exceed the cap to retain him NEXT YEAR.

Once he signs the tender this year, he would count for about 3+ million on the cap, not the 8+ million he does now. That would give us around another 5 million + the 11 million we are already under the cap for a total in the area of 16 million this year.

Of course this would all have to happen before re-signing Lou because once that happens, he will definitely count more against the cap than what he does now (based on his cap hold...I think it's a little over 1 mil, not positive on that # though)

The offer of the tender would not reduce his effect on our cap until it was signed. As of July 1 his cap hold is 3X his current salary which would put it at $8.5 million. The tender is considerably less, but would only become his cap number after he signed it. I highly doubt he would sign the tender before the last possible minute in hopes of getting an offer sheet or a S&T deal in place with a long term contract.

That is true, not going to dispute that part of it. It's a long shot, but you never know. Would Andre be willing to sacrifice his pay day for an opportunity to get a stud PF here? I doubt it, but crazier things have happened. He did turn down about 60 million last year and people thought he was crazy then.

Ditto on Brand.

As for Okafor, I saw him on the sidewalk a few nights ago in the West Village (lower Manhattan). He looks healthy and happy, flanked by a couple young females. I would love to acquire Okafor, too, but there's no chance LB lets him go anywhere. Yup, he definitely plays the right way.

Brand is my choice and I want to keep Igoudala as well (As long as are comfortable matching any RFA offer)

We've all been watching these Sixers of ours intently since the Iverson trade. I don't think any of us expected that this bunch would have made the progress they have. Call it optimism but I'm in the camp that thinks this team is a legitimate low post scorer and defender from contending.

Going into the summer we have the best combination of cap space, players and picks to make a franchise changing transaction. Since Iverson was traded (those who remember me know that I'm glad he's gone) this team has lacked a star, especially one the likes of Elton Brand.

My favorite player in the league. His work ethic is exemplary. A real role model and good guy. He's blue collar, lunch pail and whatever other cliche you can mention, qualities that will endear him to us the loyal Sixer fans. Philadelphia would adore him and I think you guys know that.

His game fits the need to a tee. Low post threat commanding double teams. He can score, pass and rebound. On the defensive end he's one of the best low block defenders and shotblockers in the league. If we're going to contend then we had better be strong down low. JSmith is not this level of low post player.

Brand next to Dalembert works much better for me than Smith next to Dalembert. Then there's the injury. I've seen him play on a couple of occasions and he looked rusty but he did have bounce to his step, gentlemen. He says he's 100% and I believe him.

This is our time and our year to capitalize on our situation. It may be years before we're again in a position of such flexibility. I say if Brand actually can be had we should do all we can to get him.
