Doug Overton new assistant coach

Post#1 » by kamaze » Tue Jun 24, 2008 12:47 am

The New Jersey Nets have named Doug Overton as an assistant coach, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today. Overton joins Brian Hill and Tom Barrise as a member of Head Coach Lawrence Frank's staff. "We are very pleased to add Doug to Coach Frank’s staff," said Thorn. "He was a player who conducted himself with a great deal of professionalism for 11 seasons in the NBA, and his addition will be an asset to both our players and coaches."

What I want to know is what does he bring to the table. I'm concerned actually about us losing Bill Cartright. I know he worked hard with Boone and S-Will in their development. We have a glaring hole in my opinion now that we don't have an assistant that is good with big man. Now with the Supreme Court ruling in favor of Ratnor, I think a logical one would be giving Patrick Ewing a call. Regardless, I wonder who the next guy we're gonna hire is.

This is the verse of why they hired Cartwright before. They got a PG to work with our PGs. Now what happens to Armstrong.

I don't think Armstrong's going to retire anyway . I think he'll play next year somewhere.

Great post P loosing Cartwright is a big blow not only did he help SWAT & Boone; and would continue to help their development;but this year's rookies as well.
If they could convince Ewing that'd be great.

Doug Overton replaces Pat Sulivan if Armstrong wants to stay I'd hire him as an assistant as well.

Overton was a smart hardworking player. There was an article a while ago about Kenny Anderson attending a coaching camp. The reviews on Anderson weren't great, but Overton received high praise. It's typically the journeyman, unathletic, overachiever that turns into the better coach. Overton was a smart player that bounced around the league & learned many different systems. He'll probably make a fine assistant coach.

Darrell Armstrong got screwed on this one. Ireally thought Darrel was a hell of a moti.vator.

I would have like to see Kermit Washington or Dennis Rodman come in as a special assistant to help with our big men.
