Maggette for Barbosa?

Post#1 » by CITYOFANGELSX3 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 8:52 pm

The Suns and Clippers are reportedly discussing a deal that would send the No. 7 pick and Corey Maggette to Phoenix for the No. 15 selection and Leandro Barbosa, according to ESPN.com.

The deal can only be approved if Maggette decides not to opt out of his contract. If he does decide to opt out, he cannot be signed-and-trade until mid-July.

Per Wiretap.

I agree with Chief. First Shaq, now Maggette?
I don't like this trade if I am Phoenix.

The suns are losing another great 3 pt shooter, something they lacked last year (great shooters). Ever since 2005, they've been losing their shooters and if they trade barbosa, they need to get another shooter to replace him.

I wish they never traded James Jones.

Per Chad Ford's chat on ESPN.com:

Jason (Phoenix): Do the Leandro Barbosa to Clippers make sense to you? Maggette has to not opt out and the Clippers would give up the 7 pick while the Suns give up their 15 as well. If so have you heard whether it's true or not?

Andy Katz: Clippers told me that deal is not happening.

Between losing Jones and marion they lost the ability to open up the floor, suns became very predicatble i feel.

The Suns would be crazy not to do this trade.

Maggette>>Barbosa
#7>>#14

5) Shaquille O'Neal/
4) Amare Stoudemire/Kevin Love/
3) Grant Hill/Boris Diaw/Alando Tucker
2) Raja Bell/Corey Maggette/
1) Steve Nash/

A couple free agents and that team is possibly in the finals.

Suns are getting the better end of this deal.

Maggette is one of the most under-rated players in the whole NBA.

How does no quality PG backup a relatively inexperienced head coach with no winning pedigree make them more of a sure thing to return to the finals?

nnnooo i want Maggette in Toronto. If somehow we can land Maggette and JO, without losing Bosh and Jose, we're definitly contenders.

The Suns win that trade, Maggette gets 20+ PPG and goes to the line 12+ times per 48 min.

Nash
Hill
Maggette
Amare
Shaq

Scary.

Barbosa for Maggette would be a steal for Phoenix... be surprised to see that happen.

Offensively, yeah, and get that 2nd offensive wing creator they've lacked since Johnson - but still lack multiple, reliable shooters to kick out to in the starting line-up (like they used to and other teams have)... Nash is more of a self-creation shooter than a spot-up guy. Maggette has seemingly improved because of last season, but even if that continues, he's just one guy, really, and don't know how consistent he'd be.

And as a team, they're still lacking that good shooting group they had in 05, 06, and to a lesser degree in 07. This past season, it dropped off before the Shaq trade, and dropped off even more after it. This would just continue that process, unless they made more moves for shooters.

Nash (self-creation shooter)
Bell (off the bench)
Maggette

That's it for significant 3PT shooters on the team. They would definitely have to get a couple more shooters for the bench, and maybe in addition to those moves - bring Hill off the bench, start Maggette at the three, and Bell at the two. So you have better floor spacing with the main five (that's under the case Maggette continues to be enough of a 3PT shooter).

I think you can draft a pretty solid PG backup with that #7. I think Barabosa is overrated due to the system he played in under d'antoni. He can shoot the 3 ball and score in transition, but he has average handle, he's bad in the half court set, and he plays absolutly no D (not that mags is a great defender).

Why not use "good", though? Great is too high of a standard to set somebody to because there are only so many "greats" around.

Maggette is better than Barbosa, and #7 is obviously better than #15. The Suns make out like bandits.

Wow (just saw it a little bit ago), plus the pick swap? That makes this deal even more of steal for Phoenix, and I think less likely to become an actuality.

For what he can do, Barbosa really should not be getting put at this level of value... (similar for that Portland deal lately brought up). He's good at what he does and is quick to an extent, but he's too one-dimensonal of a player, and won't/doesn't do that well in a half-court game.

Maggette constantly gets lost on defense. Take it from a Clip fan. One of the reason Dunleavy hates Maggette is because he can't fulfill his potential on D...that and he has really low BBall IQ.

There are plenty 3PT shooters on the free agent market ie. Eddie House, James Posey, Jr Smith, Dan Dickau, Vujacich (sp?), Mo Evans, Bogans, Brent Barry etc etc.

Oh yeah, they just need to take advantage and sign a couple... regardless of this deal.
