Latest Rumor... Some will be happy, some not so much

Post#1 » by grizzleGM » Tue Jun 24, 2008 1:11 pm

The latest rumor is...

Conley, #5
for
Cook, #2 (would have to add Banks to make the trade work salary-wise)

supposedly this is what MIA offered after Memphis offered the

Miller, Lowry, #5
for
Blount, #2

A drastic turn from Ford's NYK suggestion yesterday!

See Ford's article here

This would leave the Grizz with the lineup of:

Lowry/Critt/Banks
Miller/Cook
Gay/#28 (Walker hopefully slides to #28)
Beasley/Warrick/Cardinal
MGasol/Milicic/Collins

In all honesty, as much as I like Conley and see his potential, I would do this deal. This still leaves Miller to be traded (if needed) for additional picks.

Wow.

This trade could lead to some interesting lineups:
(If you need to play really big)
Miller (we have all seen that MMiller is capable of playing the point when needed)
Gay
Beasley
Milicic
Gasol

or small ball:
Lowry
Critt
Miller
Gay
Beasley

or super athletic:
Lowry
Critt
Gay
Warrick
Beasley

Now this would be a "Phoenix 5" lineup - if Warrick could freaking shoot the ball from outside.

Where do we sign?

I guess the Grizz brass feel the gap between Beasley and Love is large enough that trading Conley
makes sense?

I do fear that if they do this deal then of course the Portland deal involving Miller and the #13 would be right around the corner and they may attempt to draft a point guard. Westbrook, or Augustin if either fell that low, but if they were smart Brandon Rush should be the pick.

Wow, that's hard. But as much as I would miss the talent of Conley, I'll embrace Beasley :)

Plus, I was always a big supporter of Kyle Lowry.

I'm with the group..trade sounds fair (questionable with Banks being thrown in, but still fair)

#5 and Conley

for

#2 and cook, filler

If the filler is Banks, then the grizz wouldn't have to draft another pg, with Lowry, Banks, and Crittenton fighting/sharing minutes..and besides didn't any rumored deal with Portland have Jack coming back as part of the package?

What is the current rumored portland package?

I think Miller/Cardinal for Lafrenz and #13 would be ideal.

Anyone have any insight into the report of T-wolves wanting Marc Gasol? At this point I don't think his rights are worth trading up to get #3 (Gasol, #5 for #3). Not sold on that

A quick check of the Miami boards will show you that their fans aren't liking this deal at all. Honestly, I just think it's Chad Fraud talking out of his @$$ crack again...

Sign me up! I love Conley, but we need a star in Memphis! Plus, we would still have Miller to offer....maybe Phoenix?!?

Yes, but we as Grizz fans know better than anyone about not liking a deal and it still happening!

Good lord, Miami offered us a better deal than what we offered them? Do it in a heartbeat.

I would do the both deals in a heartbeat.

and if we trade Conley, I can´t see the any sense in trading MMiller...let´s keep him and fight for a playoff spot in 2009-2010

I would like to point out something confusing in Ford's report:

Insider reported several weeks ago that there was talk that Memphis would give up Mike Miller, Kyle Lowry and the No. 5 pick as part of a package for the No. 2 pick. The same source said the Heat are asking the Grizzlies to sweeten the deal by substituting Mike Conley for Lowry. The deal would be Conley and the No. 5 pick to Miami for the No. 2 pick and Daequan Cook.

Now, to me, that reads that we offered Miller, Lowry, and #5, and the Heat says substitute Conley for Lowry. The next sentence, though, seems conflicting, giving the appearance that it is only Conley and #5. Would Miller still be involved or not?

IMO Miller/Conley & the 5 for the 2 and Blount & Banks (both would have to come to Memphis to make the money work) is just too damned much (Blount would have to come back to make it balance. Conley/5 for the 2, Cook and Banks makes more sense both ways, although it may be too good to be true for the Grizz. I'd go so far as adding Warrick if Riles was interested. But Conley, Miller the pick and taking back Blount & Banks would be too much of a step back, even for Beasley.

I think you guys are getting a little carried away. I'm not even sure that upgrading from Love to Beasley is worth Conley. In fact, I would only consider it because of how I feel about the other pg's on our roster. Adding Mike Miller to that is insanity. Look, we may have gotten screwed and it looks like we'll be on the outside looking in in this two man draft, but Miami's situation is quite precarious as well. Beasley looks like a good fit at the 3, but they already have a very good player there. Furthermore, the face of their franchise seems to prefer Mayo. As far as I've heard, Riley isn't too high on Beasley either. Let's deal with Minnesota where the price could be less than our franchise pg to move up a couple spots. If Miami wants to go ahead and draft Beasley, I don't think they'll find a better deal than what we've already put on the table. I welcome them to try.

Now is this report... Ford mentions that the deal is...

MMiller, Conley, #5
for
Haslem, Cook, #2

but for it to work financially you would have to add in Banks or add Cardinal and Blount. What's the point of taking Haslem back???

I'm not sure I like this deal as much.

Lowry/Critt
Cook/Critt
Gay/#28
Beasley/Haslem/Warrick
MGasol/Milicic

Return to Memphis Grizzlies
