TEAM REPORTS

The Blue Jays players don’t know much about new hitting coach Gene Tenace, but what he’s preached over the past three days has been like a cool spring shower.

“He called just a short meeting and told us to go out and swing the bats, get your pitch and let it go,” center fielder Vernon Wells said. “He told us to just start swinging and don’t think about taking pitches for the sake of taking pitches, go out there and swing our way out of this.

“He’s kind of got that old-school mentality,” Wells said with a smile. “It’s just go up there and let ‘er rip and see what happens.

Adam Dunn asked the question, even though he already knew the answer: “Seriously, who would you bench?”

Dunn, bouncing along at 6-for-54 (.111), was not in Sunday’s lineup, and he called it “a good, solid benching. Deserved. It can’t hurt. I get in these little ruts that only I can get myself into. Eventually, I’ll come out of it, and hopefully it is Tuesday.”

The Reds were off Monday and open a three-game series Tuesday in Toronto.

Dunn said he has not heard from Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi, who said he was going to call and personally apologize to Dunn for the public flogging Ricciardi gave Dunn on the radio, questioning his abilities and his compassion for the game.

I like Rolen going after the first pitch and two outs there. 'Bout time someone went up looking for a juicy pitch.

As I type, Rios hits one out. Jays are 7 for 9 with 3 HRs to open this one...Gene Tenace is a genius!

(note: I don't actually believe Geno to be a genius)

10 for 12, 8 runs. Every batter has reached base safely and the second inning isn't over yet. I don't understand.

This is great - I wouldn't say that Geno is a genious, but it is quite possible that he has tried to simply the approach of the hitters and just get them to clear their head a bit while they are in the box.

Arroyo gave up 10 earned runs and 11 hits in one inning. Ouch!

It's the Jays, we all know what happens when they have a big game.

They'll score 2 runs tops. More likely they get a big fat 0 next game.

^^

I can definitely see that happening.... let's hope this new Maceo Gaston era won't allow it though

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
