Post#1 » by IEcelticfan » Wed Jun 25, 2008 5:22 am

cmon ownership and management, give him the MLE and 3-4 years. make another solid DA-type draft pick(s), sign another veteran proven enforcer defensive-minded big to replace PJ, resign eddie and TA and we're good to go for a repeat run.

#1 priority sign Pose !!!!

I like posey, I like him alot, but signing him to more then 2 years at the midlevel would be a mistake, Posey has already slowed a step from his former self and we don't want him under cotnract longer then we have ray, not to mention if we use the midlevel to sign posey we can't add to the team. I give posey a 20% raise over last season so we dont have to use any of the midlevel for 2 years, roughly 9 million, its not a little less then the midlevel but allows us to use the midlevel on another player to actually make us better. I don't know if we can repeat if Allen slows down next year, I want us to add another qaulity piece and retain posey that may not be possible posey may end up being the most value we can get for the midlevel but I am not tottaly sure he is.

Posey is a vry important part of this team. We need to resign him. I would like to sign him for 2-3 contract. Having Posey is liking have 2-3 players in 1. He does a lot for this team and plays multi positions.

If he wants the full MLE for more than 3 years, let him go. We can split the money between two other good role players.

Tommy Heinsohn made a good point, he said, people will always underrate posey. And I have no idea why. Good defense, good hustle, can hit the 3.

I am fully on board the re-sign Po-z bandwagon.

First, the Celtics blundered last summer by splitting the MLE between Posey and House when they should have used more of the MLE to lock up Posey long term and the LLE on House.

That's history now.

Posey was looking for somewhere near his 2007 salary of $6 Million.

The Celtics got him at a discount, and now they will have to pay.

It's a no brainer, he's their crucial defender as a mobile PF, backup SF, and occasional SG.

Start him at full MLE, with 8% raises in first two years, with a slight cut at age 35.

So, 4 years guaranteed for Posey is:

James Posey: $5.5 Million in 2009, $5.9 Million in 2010, $6.4 Million in 2011, $6 Million in 2012 (stopped 8% raises at age 35)

If the Celtics offer the full mid-level to Posey, that would mean that they could offer House a 20% raises, with 8% raises on top of that, (while saving the LLE for someone like Tyronn Lue, which would be $1.9 Million in 2009 with an 8% raise the following year):

Tyronn Lue: $1.9 Million in 2009, $2.05 Million in 2010

Eddie House: $1.8 Million in 2009, $1.94 Million in 2010, $2.1 Million in 2011

House might stay, with 3 years guaranteed. The Celtics could offer House up to 5 guaranteed years, but my suspicion is the # of guaranteed years are a bigger problem for them then the annual salary. In the big picture, it's peanuts, do do the damn deal for all 3 of the above players.

House might see an offer from someone as much as $3 Million, so I think that the Celtics will have to offer House 3 years guaaranteed to keep him, but it's not like he's so overpaid that it should be an issue.

House has great chemistry.

Posey has essentially replaced Scalabrine as a mobile, 3 point shooting PF who can defend. So, why not just dump Scalabrine's $3.2 Million and $3.4 Million to any team with cap room, in exchange for a second round pick or a token check. Just give him to a team that needs a strong locker room presence. Unfortunately, the two best destinations for Scalabrine are probably Atlanta (no 2008 picks or cap room) and the Knicks (no cap room, no second round picks for 2008 or 2009).

Portland being young might be a good place for Scalibrine, I also believe they have plenty of picks.

People need to stop saying things like, "because they are young, Scal would be a good place for them. He is professional and a good locker room guy." Nobody is giving a pick for Scal. Nobody is giving a living, breathing human being for Scal. Why can't people get that through their thick skulls. Maybe, just maybe a team would be willing to do what they did for that baseball player(who was traded for a bunch of bats) and trade him for some practice balls. But, that is about it.

Umm, I'm pretty sure Memphis' GM would make a good offer for Scalabrine....

Losing Posey would be the first big step in us not repeating next year.

It's as simple as that.

Agreed especially if a team like LA was able to take him, Bynum starting plus Posey off the bench = LA championship. Id love to get James back in Boston for 3 years.

No kidding. The rest of the league LAUGHS at us for how much we're paying Scal and for how long. Why would anyone else want to take on that ****?

Exactly. Posts like this makes me question the average IQ on this board.

Do people think that the other teams exist with the sole purpose of helping out the Celtics?
