Re: Finals MVP
Pierce was the MVP of Game 4, and that was the decisive game. He was the "Follow me, men" guy when KG was a little overwhelmed by the pressure. He was MVP.
But all three were essential to the win.

Re: Finals MVP
I was 5 rows from the court when they naded out the MVP trophy. Ray Allen definetly cringed when he didn't get it. I think the right guy got it though.

Re: Finals MVP
I think Garnett lost it after the first 3-4 games. Not saying he didn't deserve it or anything, but they' usually give it to the player with better offensive numbers. Pierce was fantastic as a facilitator throughout the entire series, so I had him over Allen by a hair.

Re: Finals MVP
I'm getting annoyed of hearing that Ray Allen should have won it. No he shouldn't have!
It was clearly Paul Pierce.
Game by Game
Game 1 -
Allen: 19pts 8rebs 5ast
Pierce: 22pts 4rebs 2ast
Game 2 -
Allen: 17pts 2rebs 2ast
Pierce: 28pts 4rebs 8ast
Game 3-
Allen: 25pts 5rebs 2ast
Pierce: 6pts 6rebs 3ast
Game 4 -
Allen: 19pts 9rebs 2ast
Pierce: 20pts 4rebs 7ast
Game 5 -
Allen: 16pts 2rebs 2ast
Pierce: 38pts 6rebs 8ast
Game 6 -
Allen: 26pts 4rebs 2ast
Pierce: 17pts 3rebs 10ast
If we want to go by game by game basis, it's Paul Pierce. 5 - 1, or if you want to say Allen played a better game 6, then it's 4-2. I say Pierce because he made plays, and Allen's points were in garbage time.
Either way, it's Pierce when we do game by game basis.
So what about stats?
Allen:
20.3ppg 5rpg 2.5apg 50FG%
Pierce:
21.8ppg 4.5rpg 6.3apg 43FG%
Stats wise, it's Paul Pierce.
Other stats:
20pt games:
Ray Allen - 2
Paul Pierce- 4
35+pt games:
Ray Allen - 0
Paul Pierce - 1
Higher points?
Pierce - 38pts
Higher rebounds?
Allen - 9rebs
Higher assists?
Pierce - 10ast
* 4 games where he had at least 7ast!
I can keep going with this, but let me finally add ... I haven't even mentioned the defensive aspect of what Paul Pierce did.
Offense - Paul Pierce
Defense - Paul Pierce
Moreover, Paul Pierce not only created his own shot, but he was creating shots for other guys, and that is a key difference between the two. Ray Allen is great off a screen and shoot, but Pierce is the type of player who can set it up for him.
Paul Pierce - well deserved MVP!

Re: Finals MVP
I wanted Ray to get the MVP but it didn't matter anyways. Ray played great during these finals and so did Pierce they both had great individual moments in these finals whether it be the back to back 3's for Pierce in game 1 or the 2 clutch lay ups by Ray in game 4. It was a great performance for both of these guys but you kinda knew it would go to Pierce and he deserved it. Both of them did.

Re: Finals MVP
Pierce deserved the MVP, but Ray was a much closer second than you give him credit for.
You could make a strong case that Ray Allen should be the one in green in Game 4. He made huge plays down the stretch - with the C's up one, he stole the entry pass into the post on defense, got the offensive rebound off a Pierce miss, and made the sick reverse lay-up to put the C's up three. On the Lakers' next possession, he swiped the ball out of Vujacic's hands, forcing him to put up a wild brick as the shot clock expired, and Garnett scored next time down to make it a five point game. Then obviously the lay-up to seal it. I'm still ticked that the refs didn't call the obvious foul on Vujacic in the closing seconds - Ray had the rebound in his hands, the foul knocked it free, and they played on. If they call that foul, Ray finishes with 21 and 10 instead of 19 and 9, and it looks a little better in the final stat sheet.
Ray also got the Celtics jump started in game 6, scoring 8 of the first 14 before he got hurt (Boston came out a little shaky early, but Ray got things settled down). And I think he hit a couple key threes early in the second half to sort of make sure the C's kept their foot on the gas. The fourth quarter threes he hit were just for show.
That said, I thought Game 5 sealed it for Pierce, he was simply awesome and Ray struggled in the second half (although we found out later that his son went to the hospital that day). They really each had one bad game in a loss (Pierce in Game 3, Ray in Game 5), but I think Pierce had more responsibility on the offensive end and was the guy the Celtics most couldn't afford to be without. So I'd have given it to him if I had a vote - even as a Ray fan.

Ray made the huge plays when you guys needed it. Dude defines clutch and without him you would've never won the chip.

He's a toronto fan the * stands for how irrelevant the championship is. The real victory was winning the Atlantic Division and I'm sure with the choice to be made we will raise a banner to remeber we won the Atlantic Divison in 08'!

LOL. Who raises banners to "celebrate" division titles? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. It bothers me that the bruins do it. Then again, it is the bruins so who give a leap.
