first trade of the off-season has the blazers buying the hornets 1st round pick.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008 ... id=3459658

considering their roster size and current picks, one has to assume this is a sign that they are about to consolidate picks/talent and make a splash.

a blockbuster has reportedly just been agreed to that will Jermaine O'neal to the raptors for TJ Ford, Rasho, #17, and another role player.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgns

NEW YORK – After on-and-off again negotiations, the Indiana Pacers have agreed in principle to send six-time All-Star Jermaine O’Neal to the Toronto Raptors for point guard T.J. Ford and the 17th pick in Thursday’s NBA draft, a league executive said Wednesday.

After nearly completing the deal earlier in the week, Pacers and Raptors officials needed to exchange more medical information on O’Neal’s left knee and Ford’s neck before finding a comfort level with the trade. It is believed both sides now are comfortable making the deal, though the trade won’t be complete until both O’Neal and Ford pass their physicals.

Toronto also will send Rasho Nesterovic and another role player to match up with O’Neal’s salary. O’Neal is owed $44 million over the next two seasons. He played just 42 games for Indiana a year ago with a left knee injury. O’Neal has expressed a desire to leave the Pacers for a contender.

another pick trade

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2 ... raft-pick/

The luxury tax-strapped Nuggets no longer have a pick in Thursday’s draft.

The Nuggets on Wednesday traded their No. 20 pick to Charlotte for a future protected first-round selection.

The Nuggets are in line to have a $90 million payroll next season, which would be about $20 million over the luxury-tax threshold.

The No. 20 pick will make nearly $1.3 million next season. With the Nuggets in the dollar-for-dollar luxury tax, that would be savings of $2.6 million.

I think its ridiculous that all these other teams are getting more 1st-round picks for nothing! I wish the Lakers would make a move for a 1st-round pick. At the very least it could have been used in a trade package with another Lakers player for a player such as Baron Davis (Odom + 1st-rnd pick), etc.

i think the lakers would be in the same position as the the nuggets. way too much committed money to worry about spending money on a guaranteed contract that a 1st rnd pick comes with.

My ideal scenario ...

Chris Douglass Roberts and/or Bill Walker still are on the board towards the end of the first round or early second and the Lakers swoop in and steal them. I think CDR is by far the steal of this draft. He is so talented. Reminds me of Shawn Marion when he came out. Just flying under the radar ... even though he was an all-american and the second best player on an NCAA finals team.

Also, I was thinking about this today ... and before I say it--know that I'm not even sure if I would even consider it. Nonetheless, would the Heat be willing to part with the #2 pick, Blount and Banks for Odom and Farmar? Just hear me out. They really want a young PG and hoping that Rose would slip, but he won't. Farmar addresses that immediately and has NBA experience. It would be an interesting team for sure. And they would have two contracts expiring this offseason that would total almost 30 mill. For the Lakers--well, they get Beasley who can contribute immediately and really CAN play SF. He shoots well outside and, like Lamar, will masacre small forwards on the glass. They also get another body in Blount and a defensive (albeit dumb) minded guard in Banks. Just an idea that I thought might be worth discussing.

Thoughts?

JO and Bosh in a front court huh? Hmmm Jermaine is no Center and he has not back to the basket game... as much as it looks good from a talent level if JO can come back healthy(has he ever?) and as much as that fills a need for backup for Bosh, it seems like a bad fit to me.

link to the bucks/rj trade:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/b ... index.html

The Milwaukee Bucks have agreed in principle to trade Yi Jianlian to the New Jersey Nets for Richard Jefferson, two league sources told SI.com.

The Bucks also are sending Bobby Simmons to the Nets. He has $20.5 million left on a contract that expires in the summer of 2010, when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh could become free agents.

This trade could be seen as a sign that the Nets truly are interested in getting involved in the LeBron sweepstakes, based in no small part on his close friendship with Nets minority owner Jay-Z. As a result of this trade, the Nets are no longer committed to paying Jefferson $15 million in 2010-11.

its also already on the espnnews ticker as "nes trade richard jefferson to the bucks".

as far as the clips trade, people are saying its reprorted on espn, haven't seen it myself. for more confirmation go to the general board. they're talking about both trades.

Post#19 » by dockingsched » Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:36 pm

right now ric bucher and andy katz are discussing the deal and say that the clips/sonics trade is all but done unless mayo gets past the wolves in which case the sonics will take mayo for themselves. otherwise, the deal will be completed.

espn confirms rj to bucks trade
