NJ/Portland 3 way

Post#1 » by granger05 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:35 pm

I posted this in the Cleveland trade thread, but I'm pulling it out on it's own because I think basketballwacko had a good idea for all three teams.

At basketballwacko's suggestion, this works on the trade checker:

Portland in:
Richard Jefferson
Portland out:
Raef LaFrentz
Rudy Fernandez
#13

New Jersey in:
Jermaine O'Neal
#11
New Jersey out:
Richard Jefferson
Stromile Swift
Marcus Williams
#10

Indy in:
Raef LaFrentz
Stromile Swift
Marcus Williams
Rudy Fernandez
#10 & #13
Indy out:
Jermaine O'Neal
#11

These players could be the framework for a deal with picks or some other cheap prospects moving around as well. I took a pass at balancing the picks.

Why for Portland:
They get to fill their hole at SF. Jefferson is reasonably paid and seems like a team player and good citizen. They give up a low teens pick and a highly touted foreign prospect, but this seems about the right value for Jefferson.

Why for NJ:
They seem keen to move Jefferson, presumably for a LeBron run. Their side of the deal is basically only with us and I've seen this version kicked around before, it's just that our roster has no need for Jefferson. I don't know if the pick swap matter much, but if gives us first dibs at Gordon if he falls.

Why for Indy:
This is pretty much the kind of deal we're looking for. We move JO for expiring contracts, a prospect coveted by our GM, and a pick (plus an upgraded pick).

I think this is pretty reasonable all around, and it combines a few other rumors we've heard with Jefferson.

We get too good of a deal. NJ would never do that.

Agreed. That would be an absolute no brainer for us. I am not sure Portland really has that high of a need or want for Jefferson either.

don't complicate it by having NJ move down 1 pick in the draft. Pacers think their guy will be available at 11 and Jersey will wonder if letting the Pacers move ahead of them means they want to take Jersey's target. now if you can get pick the Pacers a second pick, then you've done something. Jersey has the 20. Portland has two high seconds and is rumored to be buying the 27.

plus, I wonder if you can find a way to make it work without Portland giving up on Rudy. I think they like him and he really doesn't do anything for Indy.

I like this idea alot NJ gets what they want a big who can play D and they accellerate Jeffersons deal to 2 yrs so they can get into the the LeBron sweepstakes, they move Marcus who they seem to have lost confidnce in and if they want to keep Swift and give us KVH I'd be ok with that so an alt deal would be

Indiana in:
Reaf
Marcus Williams'
KVH (cut)
Jack
#21 and #13

Indiana out:
JO

NJ in
JO

NJ out:
Jefferson
KVH
Williams
#21

Portland in:
Jefferson

Portland Out:
Raef
Jack
#13

Pacers get Raef, Williams, Jack and #13, #21, we draft #11, 13 and 21. Second deal sends Daniels and #13 and 21 to Memphis for Cardinal and #5.

Portland fans have no interest in giving up Rudy. Outside of Oden-Roy-LMA, Rudy probably has the most value on this team.

Substitute Rudy with Webster and you have yourself a deal. To me at least, most Blazer fans are ga-ga over Webster, but I'm not.
