NBADraft.net Rumor POR/NJN

Post#1 » by Spykes » Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:22 am

But there are several with a chance to have a real impact at the NBA level. First and foremost is Italy's Danilo Gallinari, who is expected to be a late lottery pick, linked to the 10th overall selection. There is word that Portland and New Jersey are discussing a deal that would allow the Blazers to move up from 13 to 10 to grab the small forward.

This seems like a strange rumor considering all the talk of Gallinari refusing to play for anyone but the Knicks or Nets. It's also the first time I can recall any news of Gallinari even being on the Blazers radar.

I was just reading on Yahoo that the Blazers are actually trying to move up to #10 for Alexander if he's there when the Nets pick. The Nets apparently feel that if they don't take Dano at 10, he can fall to 13 based on the teams that pick after them not needing a SF. They can trade down to 13, acquire something else or cash and have the Blazers take Alexander there.

Regardless I love the last 24 hours before the draft!

That sounds more realistic.

And not to toot my own horn, but I've been saying this could be the case for a few weeks now. :P

I wonder how they're gonna work this deal. I'm concerned about #11 with Indy now. I think they'd take Robin Lopez hopefully and the Kings go with Augustine or something. I wonder if with the TJ Ford/JO deal if Portland even still wants to do this.

I think the Blazers may still want to get ahead of the Kings because PG is high on their need list, as is a PF. Indy could still go for Augustin as well, as Ford can be moved onto another PG needy team, or Augustin could just be insurance given Ford's injury history.

Why wouldn't they? If they're targetting Augustin (as rumored), Jack is expendable. They also have 2 first round picks & 3 2nd rounders. They can afford to give picks up.

Portland would do that in a heartbeat IMO. Jack is expendable and we have way to many second round picks.

So you have no problems with hassell's contract and giving jack (who has some value) away just to move up 3 spots?

none whatsoever I just want Jack gone I see it as addition by subtraction.

^It's a very good trade for both teams if Gallinari and Augustin are there at 10. If Gallinari goes higher though I can't see it happening since someone else will fall to 10 (Gordon/Bayless) who won't likely be there at 13.

Didn't know you guys were so sour on Jack.

And I agree with Lurking, this will only get done if gallinari falls to #10.

Yeah I could totally see this deal taking place tomorrow night "if things go as they hope" ya know.

I'm really high on Jack. I honestly think he can be a starting PG in this league so I'd love having him back up Harris.

The only logic that escapes me is the Nets acquiring another 2nd round pick when they said today that they want to steer clear of having a lot of young guys on the team.

Could the Nets possibly be looking to trade up from #21, a 2nd round pick from Portland as the bait?

I mean, we've heard all of the Robin Lopez rumors in the past week. While picking him at #10 is absurd IMO, there seems to be enough buzz on him, that I tend to doubt he's still there at #21. Maybe the plan is to trade from 10 to 13 (still landing Gallinari) and then pairing pick 21 with a 2nd rounder (either NJ's own or the one from the POR deal) to move up say the 15-18 range?

Reportedly the deal is really Nets #10 + Marcus for #13 and jack.

I knew the earlier deal was too good to be true and I can't say i'm feeling this trade. Why drop 3 spaces for a guy we really don't need in jack. He's not that big of un upgrade.
