Does our draft strategy chance now that we have two picks?
I could see a few scenarios for the Pacers now, what do you guys think.
Scenario one- Draft Augustin at 11 and go big at 17. It seems no matter what we do, it would be wisest to go big later with Robin Lopez, McGee, Jordan, Speights, Arthur and possibly Kofus still there at 17.
Scenario two- Since we are getting a point in Ford and a serviceable big in Nesterovic, maybe Bird would feel more comfortable grabbing Randolph at 11 and letting him develop? I could see that scenario, then drafting maybe Chalmers with pick 17.
Scenario three- The unlikely happens and Gordon falls in our lap. I think we have to take him, then who do you take, a big or pg with 17?
What do you guys think Bird's strategy will be with number 17 and 11?

Re: Does our draft strategy chance now that we have two picks?
I think unless we trade for a backup PG (like the mentioned swap Shaenw for Lowry) we still gonna draft a point guard. But I'm sure won't be DJ Augustin, he's so similar to TJ Ford that doesn't make sense to me draft Augustin. I could see Bird drafting a guy like Chalmers, though.
And the other pick, it's likely Bird goes with a big man. I really like Marreese, but Darrell Arthur, Hibbert and maybe Koufos is ok to me (the only players that I don't want is DeAndre Jordan and Robin Lopez).
The JO trade will gonna change our draft strategy, but I don't think will change that much, unless, like I said we make another trade for a backup PG (then we draft two big man)

I think it's the same. I think Bird knew a deal similar to this would happen. He's been talking about adding up to 2 point guards all week and has been talking about wanting 2 picks for a while. I think this is his plan and we're right on schedule and we passed the biggest hurtle.
I think the draft "dream" is Arthur and Hibbert, but we could face problems if Gordon is available at 11, and then try to get Arthur with the 17th? Who knows... still with this deal, i don't see them not picking Gordon if he's there. Also, i see one or two more deals. Shawne Williams will be gone and Tinsley too, although if not by trade, then a buy-out. NO WAY do we fly TJ Ford into Indianapolis with Jamaal still in town... lol

I think the draft strategy was always the same as Bird seemed confident that he would get another pick for him to say it publicly like he did.
I think Bird has 2 players in mind, and unless a very good player falls to us, Bird will take them. Unless Bird plans on telling Tinsley to stay away from the team like he did with Artest, I don't see us taking another PG. Either that or a deal with Tinsley is already in place.

I will be shocked, and i'm sorry for posting this many times, but i'm just very confident a deal involving Williams for Lowry is in the works. He's the perfect backup i think. Quick, good offensively and a good defender. If anything god forbid happens to Ford, we'd have Lowry and Diener, which looks much better then just Diener.
I have no idea what we could deal Tinsley for. My guess is a buy-out.

Dude, I'm mad at you. Your getting me excited about a deal that probably won't happen. It would be a dream trade though. I really don't see Bird drafting a PG with either 1st round picks and he did say two, so we will see.

LOL
You're getting excited about getting Kyle Lowry? But not Ford, Rasho and the 17th pick for JO? lol
Idk, i just have a feeling. Bird said we may add 2 point guards on draft day. I don't think he meant George Hill because he said he's got stuff in the works. I think that means trade. lol.
And i still stick with Arthur with 11, Hibbert with 17.

Re: Does our draft strategy chance now that we have two picks?
I think the Pacers will go for bigs at #11 and #17. I'm hoping for Speights and Hibbert, but there are several other possibilities. Bird certainly talked up Arthur--smokescreen, or not? (Personally, Arthur doesn't do much for me, I think he is a classic Tweener with small forward size and big forward skills.)
At #41 we probably get the BPA, but it would be nice to have a guard with some size who is a defensive maniac and can play some pg in a pinch (paging Kyle Weaver) or a true pg who is not a mighty-mite (paging George Hill). Not sure if either of those guys will still be on the board at #41 though...that would be the icing on the cake if we got Hill or Weaver.

YUCK Arthur with the 17th is more likely. No need to severely reach on our 11th.
I think grabbing another first rounder guarantees us to select BPA. Whoever falls out of the top 10, we are selecting them. We are no longer compelled to draft PG, IMO. Draft express/NBA draft has Randolph falling out of the top 10. I hope this isn't the case. I really want us to get Gordon. Then w/ the 17th pick Speights/Arthur.

No Gran33r, I'm excited for the change and I'm getting more excited as time passes, I dunno, I just hope it works out for us....I actually think I'm starting to like it, I just miss JO.

Anyone notice that the salaries don't work on tradechecker? What am I missing in the deal?
And I think the strategy changes bigtime. Eric Gordon is the target at 11 no doubt. At 17 probably Hibbert. And either a foreign gamble like Ante Tomic or Serge Ibaka, or Mike Green in the 2nd round. I would most like to see the team package both picks and move up...get Westbrook. But that won't happen. I'd hate to see a project taken like Mcgee, Jordan, or Randolph.

Re: Does our draft strategy chance now that we have two picks?
I would like to see Prince Mbah a Moute with our second rounder, if he is there. He has zero offensive game and doesnt fill a need, but the guy is a defensive master. This team, still lacking defense, could use a guy like that. He comes from a winning program, been to a few Final Fours, and if he focuses on defense and spot up shooting (a la Bruce Bowen), then he easily has a place in the league. Just a thought, we dont give much consideration to our second round pick on this board, other than pimping George Hill (personally, I am not a huge fan).
PS, Gordon is not going to fall to #11. I cant see it happening. Stranger things have happened, but I'd be shocked to see him fall out of the top ten.

Why does everyone want Gordon so badly? I agree he'd be nice, but we have bigger needs than SG.

Re: Does our draft strategy chance now that we have two picks?
Congratulations, you all got what you wanted. Just a couple of questions:
1.) Why trade for a PG with Tinsley still on the team? Now we have two starting point guards with injury problems.
2.) Has everyone forgotten that Ford is one injury away from retirement?
3.) Who's the veteran/ all-star on the team now? Jeff Foster?
4.) Who's going to lead this team? Danny Granger?
5.) How does it feel with Larry behind the wheel? We obviously haven't gotten better and over half the people on RealGM believe Toronto got the best of the deal.
6.) What if we would have kept Artest or traded for Vince Carter last year?
7.) WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE PLAY THE RAPTORS? Jermaine O'neal AND Chris Bosh...Good luck Foster and Murph!!!

Re: Does our draft strategy chance now that we have two picks?
Raps fan here, I'm wondering if you guys see this is a done deal type of situation. Is it still too early to tell or is the TJ/JO trade solidified? I know TJ has a BYC thing in his contract, which I've been lead to believe means that he can't be traded until July 1st, when it expires. Is there anything holding the deal up other than that? A few ppl have posted reasons why the BYC doesn't affect the trade, and that it can happen at any time, but it's all chinese to me. What do yall think?

Man, negative nancy here.
1. Tinsley wont be here when the season starts.
2. Its not a nagging injury that he suffers from. He has to take a severe blow to his spinal cord, in which case any player is one injury away from retiring.
3. Danny Granger is the franchise player.
4. Danny Granger and TJ Ford.
5. So far, so good. JO was getting traded, he wanted out. We got the best deal we could have gotten.
6. Artest is insane and demanded a trade. He was gone. If we traded for Vince Carter, we have a disgruntled star who gives a halfhearted effort at a position we are covered at.
7. We play them like every other team with a good front line.

Re: Does our draft strategy chance now that we have two picks?
My Thoughts:
1. Don't combine picks to move up. This draft is deep enough to end up with two good picks instead of one. Any pick could be a potential bust. I would rather have a bust be 1 of 2 rather than 1 of 1.
2. As unpopular as it may seem. Don't trade Tinsley. We would have Ford/Tinsely/Denier at point with Daniels capable of substituting if he isn't traded. No need to draft a PG unless he is the best available at that time. We aren't going to get decent value for him-- what he brings when he is on the floor (as infrequent as that may be) exceeds what we would receive in return. Keep him.
3. I would really like to see Hibbert with the #17 pick. The #11 pick should be the best available. If Gordon fell, it would be a good pick up for us from a PR/fan-base standpoint. He would fill in for Kareem Rush nicely. However, we should not be locked into a PG.
4. We need to decide what to do with Ike, Daniels, Williams, and Murphy. Any and all could be packaged to help improve our team this year or with future picks.
5. Nesterovich's salary will be give us enough room to resign Granger and Foster next year. I don't expect to see him in a Pacer uniform beyond this season.
Without additional moves, our Line up could look like this:
C- Murphy, #17 (Hibbert?), Brezec (if he is the additional player)
PF- Foster, Ike, Nesterovich
SF- Granger, Williams, Daniels
SG- Dunleavy, #11 (Gordon?),Graham
PG- Ford, Tinsley, Denier
That team, if healthy, could at least make the playoffs next year with its depth. Still need some more support for Granger and Dunleavy though. The only way to get that support is by moving Ike, Daniels, Murphy, Foster, and/or Williams.
GO PACERS!
