Did KOC slip up yesterday and reveal a trade?

Post#1 » by JDubJazz » Wed Jun 25, 2008 3:40 pm

Last night on 1320 KFAN's draft roundtable, O'Connor was asked about the Jazz's ability to trade picks due to our Deals with Philly and NYK. While talking about the traded pick to Philly, Kevin O'Connor said "New Jersey" instead of Philly. Its probably nothing, but sometimes a slip of the tongue can reveal more than you would like. It could mean that the Jazz have a deal with the Nets (maybe to move up to 21 if Hibbert is available) in place for draft night.

Once again, its probably nothing, but I'll will be watching with great interest tomorrow when NJN make their picks.

Interesting. And when you realize KOC came from Philly it isn't like he is a regular Utahn thinking "over there" in terms of all the mid Atlantic cities.

if the jazz really have interest in roy hibbert, they are going to have to trade up a little higher than 3 spots of what we currently are at. i say hibbery goes 15-20.

I doubt that's in the cards, but it is interesting that our picks are so close to each other. What would we be giving them in return, a second-rounder? Or would it be part of a package? I'm not sure there's anything that could be worked out in the latter scenario.

I really can't see him going as high as 15.

I'm not sure what Phoenix would do with him. Philly has Dalembert. Toronto or Washington could take a Center, but Robin Lopez could well be on the board still at that point, as well as DeAndre Jordan and Koufos. The highest I can see him going is 18 or 19, and even that's a stretch, I think.

If there is a supposed NJ trade with Utah I hope we're swinging for the fences and bring in Richard Jefferson. I really believe if the Jazz get another solid wing player to play along side brewer the Jazz would be a serious contender. Plus I heard LA is shopping for RJ and better us than them.

I heard that too and was wondering the same thing. Also, as it was stated previously O'Connor wouldn't mistakenly say NJ instead of Philly because he came from Philly, you don't accidentally misname your old job.

It would make sense if the Jazz were trying to move up to the #21 spot to have a better crack at the big guy they want, and it could definitely help them get rid of one of those second rounders which he also said in the interview can only usually help you move up about 1 spot or so...

But the team they leapfrog is Orlando, who has a pretty ok decent center. I think the move may involve something else, or it could be a proposed trade on his mind that was discussed but won't materialize.

Locke is reporting that the Knicks worked out Jason Thompson and Mario Chalmers today which makes it seem as though they are getting a pick in the late teens early 20's. They have also been actively shopping David Lee.

#23 for David Lee?

That makes no sense unless we are trading Boozer and are gonna have Millsap and Lee platoon at PF. Then again they are both the exact same player.

I also highly doubt David Lee is worth a mid 20s pick. They have passed on a lot of players because they want to keep Lee.

Trading up to 21st won't do us any good to get Hibbert. Just now, the Bobcats received the 20th pick from the Nuggets and I heard the Bobcats did this trade is they could get Hibbert before the Jazz did. T.T

Hibbert won't be there at 20 either. He will be taken at #12 by Indiana after they just traded away Jermaine O'Neil for TJ Ford.

You guys are out of your minds if you think David Lee could be had for the #23. If he was starting, he would be in the Memo Okur-range as far as value is concerned. Please, l2p before talking.

And we will have to get to at least 18 if we want a reasonable shot at Hibbert. You never really know, and it wouldn't be the wildest thing to ever happen on draft night, but if we want to get a solid shot at him, 18 (ahead of Cleveland....and now Charlotte) is the least we'll have to do.

I think 17, E23, I really think Indy will take him. Lost JO, Foster is a UFA next summer and they dont really have any prospects at C.

I think us getting Hibbert is out of the question, I think now we wait and see what falls to us at 23 or move up to perhaps 21 if there is someone we like. We just dont have the juice to get into the late teens.

I think were gonna probably end up taking a guy like Ibaka or Jordan or best available, whether thats CDR, Batum, Lee etc. Then perhaps we can use Almond as bait to get someone like Foster. I think Hart, Collins and Almond for Foster and Owens and maybe a future 2nd. Indy has to bite on that.

In fairness, it's hard for people to get used to the fact that Isiah is gone. He would have added cash considerations to that deal.
