We have a mess on our hand

Post#1 » by Magicalltheway » Thu Jun 26, 2008 3:54 pm

Why hasn’t anyone else voiced these issues is beyond me. But I just can’t stop think about what we are going to do.

Here are the issues:

1- We currently have 11 players on the roster, players with? Are Dooling, ME, CA and Foyle. JJ and Augustine won’t play so that leaves us with 9 players.

2-We will fill 1 spot in the first round and maybe one in the second round.

3- We did what we did with Dooling and Evans contributing a lot.

4- We are already at $59mil with only 11 players, which means we either have to resign our own players or bring in FA. Since we have no one to use to trade we will picking up less talent than we already have.

5- I think the biggest concern will be the pg spots. With CA gone and Dooling thinking of joining where the money is, we will need to pick up 2pgs.

I have a lot of trust in Otis, but at the end of every exciting day like today has left me searching and scratching my head.

Will someone give me some relief please.

"we" have nothing on our hands, except the ones who regularly look for suspect entertainment on the Interwebz (I'm looking at you N4U and IvDT).

There are concerns no doubt.

1) With the exception of Evans, our starting lineup will likely be the same. Some have considered Evans a borderline starter, so it wouldn't take much to replace him.

2) We will have more depth in the front court - Battie returning and Gortat making a good showing during the POs.

3) There's been rumors that JWill would come here for the vet min.

We're certainly not set for next year, but we're not a mess, imo. Our core is still in place.

Otis has his work cut out to have improve on last year's performance.

Also, I think SVG still was trying to figure things out towards the end of the season, so that will be better as well.

Evans will be replaced with part of the mle
arroyo will be replaced by the lle
dooling will be replaced by #22
adonal will be replaced by the other part of the mle
garrity will be replaced by a summer leauge invitee
augustine will be replaced by 2nd rounder (hopefully)

does that make you feel better?? maybe even resign dooling and then use the #22 to replace garrity... it can be done ... we will be ok

Well, part of mle is 2.5mil, through the FA. who could hardly be an upgrade to Evans.
After checking the lle options for pg, only one I have come up with is JW who in my opinion is not an upgrade over Carlos. Atleast Carlos has stayed healthy.
Dooling will not be replaced by the 22. our 22 will give us a SG not a pg which dooling played for us.
So there is still a major hole there. The rest I can understand.

I may be, but I just do see how we can remain as competetive as last year with all the personel changes. In many cases not any upgrades in sight.

i was just trying to show that we can make up for the lost players... not that they would get made up that exact way... just showing that there is enough flexibility to field a good roster...

IMO our bench was the reason we didnt advance. Now how is JW an upgrade over Dooling. I agree with our front court and I have no problem with that. I guess my concern is mostly with our pg. With Jameer and JW we are hardly title chasers.

I understand what you are saying and thank you for it, but I am not concerned with filling up roster spots with just any player. And I am not satisfied with losing out to the pistons again. I am hoping for a stronger bench than what we already had. I am not saying the sky is falling, I just want better bench. Our core is set, no problem there. knowing JJ and Augustine will not get any playing time how do we improve our roster without any trade baits.

We can't sign and trade any or out FA tonight to pick up picks either.

Dooling is not a PG. JWill will have less minutes to play (better chance of staying healthy) as out backup.

I agree with our front court and I have no problem with that.

So we've effectively upgraded in one place where our lack of depth hurt us, without spending any additional money.

I guess my concern is mostly with our pg. With Jameer and JW we are hardly a title chasers.

I agree with the concern, seeing that Jameer has missed games every season.

But we've got player rights, draft, MLE, LLE, vet min (hopefully JWill) to fill these holes and be a East contender. Title chasing will be a difficult task next season, even if we fill every hole - Boston being a big reason.

Why would the Clips do that?

Only reasons in my mind:
1) They think that Elton is not coming back as strong
2) They want to change they way they are playing
3) They want cap space after next season

As a side note, isn't Marion one of the reasons Miami was balking at taking Beasley? They play the same position(s)?

i, personally, really don't think it's hard to upgrade over Evans, Dooling and Arroyo.

Evans and Bogans are pretty much a wash as far as talent goes, and we've still got Bogans locked up. JJ is always there in the wings. there's a good chance we draft another SG with the 22 pick who i think will challenge for minutes within the first season.

JWill has been rumoured as a backup PG and he's light years ahead of Arroyo. in fact, i'll go out on a limb and say nearly any PG addition we make will have as much impact as Arroyo did last season.

We've got the MLE to use, whether its all in one chunk on a SG prospect such as Pietrus/Childress/Maggette/JR Smith - and if we do that it means that we have a big glut at SG and one of Bogans or JJ become expendable. that means trade asset.

we will hopefully add a 2nd rounder and pick up a bangin role player to fill the front court. if not there's still cheap young guys out there that we will be able to fit in behind Battie and Gortat.

basically, our lineup will remain the same albeit upgrades at several positions. i don't see how any move addition we make to our front court or backcourt won't be an upgrade, because neither were strong points to begin with.

Were done for. Dwights going to get a career ending injury shard will demand a trade and Hedo will mysteriously develop turkoflu until he gets traded to Turkey.

Cumon ... that is rediculous. Everyone knows that Ompaloompas reach their maximum height of about 4'0" and rarely decrease in height as they age.

I'm going to have a mess on my hands if we draft a quality SG at #22.
