Brand And No. 7 For Marion And No. 2 Being Discussed?

Post#1 » by pl » Thu Jun 26, 2008 5:35 pm

Where is the topic on this headline?

Marion and Brand are each 20/10 players with good defense. Brand is inside defender, Marion is perimeter.
Brand also missed last season with major injury.

What makes the difference between them worth the Beasley - Bayless (or whoever no7 is) switch?

If Miami wants to trade Marion because they couldn't work out an extension with him, why do they think they will be able to negotiate it with Brand?

I would think that Miami would be more willing to give Brand a bigger extension since he's clearly the better player.

So many fricken rumors. Just let the draft start so most of these bs ones can get thrown out.

IMO, this rumor has legs. I don't want to part with Elton though.

Not that clearly imo... probably he was better, but he is coming back from a ruptured achilles... You don't give huge extensions to players like that either.
And I thought Beasley could become a very similar PF...

Marion + Beasley at 4,5 is not bad IMO...
All Miami needs to do is finally put Wade back to PG.
Wade- RDavis- Marion- Beasley- Zo
That should make them pretty strong in the East.

Davis expired.

Miami is between going after Brand now, or trying to sign Carlos Boozer in the 2009 offseason as a free agent. that's how the papers have been reporting it all week, and that's supposedly why Riley is thinking of taking Mayo.

Well, they sure won't get Mayo with a no7 pick...
Brand>>>Boozer though... (but who knows how can Brand recover?)

As a Heat fan I hope Riley doesn't pull that deal and waits patiently for another year to see how Brand recovers from his surgery and offers him a deal during the following offseason. Please be conservative for once Riley.

This would be a coup for the Clipps IMO. Brand porbably isnt in their long term plans, and they turn a mediocre pick into a franchise player.

Hell, this might even convince Maggette to stay. Maggete/Marion/Beasley/Kaman could be a nasty 4 with Mobley, Thomas and Thornton providing some decent dpth. All they would need is a PG. Maybe take a risk on Tinsley and trade Mobley for him?

The Clippers want Mayo.

so basically a Mayo for Lopez/Love/Westbrook swap involving Elton Brand and Shawn Marion..

interesting...

Brand performed very much like his old self in the games that he came back to play at the end of last season. If Riley pulls off a deal in which the Heat have a lineup of Wade-Marion-Brand, I'll cream.

If you're a Heat fan, don't you do this in a New York second?

You could then take Brook Lopez at seventh overall and have a dominating frontcourt.

No. People on our board have mixed feelings.

I'd rather have Beasley. Take Beasley this year and sign Brand/Boozer next off-season and go from there. Move Beasley to SF and have a core of Wade-Beasley-Brand/Boozer.

Clippers get away with murder here... That's the point i'm trying to make

Brand was injured last year, and reportedly still thinks about opting out in a week...
So they get Marion AND Beasley for a player they would lose for nothing.

Unless Riley really believes the team can contend for a title this year, I see no point in trading for Brand when they can wait next off-season and sign him if they want him THAT bad.

Not only that but Beasley/Marion for Brand/7th pick isn't really fair when you consider what Beasley could be and what Marion already is. You're not getting anything for the 7th pick that you probably couldn't sign for this off-season. Well, then again that depends on what they're looking for. If its a PG, they can try to move Haslem for one.

indeed, since I really have the feeling that, if they don't trade Brand in a week, he would opt out this summer...
Getting Marion AND Beasley for nothing is not too bad, really.

The Clippers would love this deal. In reality your giving them the front court that Heat fans are expecting to be theirs next season. Beasley and Marion could be a very good and unique combo. Beasley should be better than Brand and they get Marion. Miami needs to get more to make a deal like this. Marion and a late lottery pick is equal to Brand.

cb4miamiheat mentioned this before, but the clippers could potentially have a 20/10 player on the rookie deal, which is very enticing.

Clippers could roll out a lineup of

PG: part of MLE
SG: mobley
SF: Thornon/Marion
PF: Beasley
C: Kaman

That's a nice young team, and they could trade marion later for more assets to build on b/c he's much older than the rest of them.

From the heat's perspective, they want to win now, but if they could still draft beasley and then sign brand, that's definitely a great situation also.

So many scenarios are possible.

This is the part of the game stern can't ruin, i love the draft!
