Clippers Inquirer About Marion

Post#1 » by loflin3hree5ive » Thu Jun 26, 2008 12:53 pm

A source familiar with the situation said Wednesday night that the Heat already has received overtures from the Raptors, Pacers, Clippers and several other teams regarding Shawn Marion, who is seeking the type of lucrative extension Heat President Pat Riley appears reluctant to consider.

Marion became eligible to be traded only after he allowed Tuesday's 6 p.m. opt-out deadline to pass. The timing puts him in play for a draft-night trade.

So, Marion/#2 for Brand/#7 sounds like it might have some teeth, especially when you consider that Riley had a private workout with Bayless the other day...

Yup, and it's definitley starting to look like Bayless will be available at #7, too. And after reading on the Heat board that it's already been decided Miami will draft Mayo #2 and trade him, it's definitley sounding like the Heat and Clippers could have a deal brewing.

Well if we have a shot at either OJ or Beasley at the #2 pick plus Marion then the deal seems attractive but I still hope management doesn't bite.

I don't like this deal. I don't want to give up Brand, he's still the main man on our team and we're building around him.

Marion is no Elton Brand. Even though the #'s are similar, its not even close.

And Brand will have some loyalty to us at the end of this contract year. Why would Marion? We could end up losing him entirely.

Ok, so if we do Brand & #7 for Marion & #2, what happens if we get Mayo? Who will play PF for us? I don't see Thornton being able to play the 4 and i wouldnt be too comfortable with marion either. I think if we did do Brand/7 for Marion/2, and we wouldnt get Beasley, we would just be creating more holes in the lineup.

Mayo
Maggs
Thornton
Marion
Kaman

^ would that be our lineup?? I think we would have to many similar players that would act as swingmen.

I always consider the locker room atmosphere, as well, and Marion is reputed to be quite impressive in the diva role.

Nothing positive comes out of this deal. We lose our franchise player and gain an overpaid primadonna. The #2 pick, regardless of who it winds up being, does us no good immediately. We pull this trade, the team implodes.

Good thing there is a money back guarantee for season ticket holders.
