Draft night is almost here

Post#1 » by evildallas » Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:04 pm

And it feels like Prom Night and I don't have a date. Since I doubt that dad will spring for buying a pick (would that be like hiring a professional escort?), I expect to be stuck at home eating ice cream. Is anyone else going through serious withdraw hearing how the other teams can improve themselves?

I have pretty much avoided any draft talk. The exact opposite from last year. Last year's draft was possibly the most exciting in franchise history. Definitely top 3. From the lottery to draft night.

My top basketball friend in the office is a Heat fan and he's FREAKING OUT that Riley isn't going to pick Beasley. Honestly, he looks physically ill right now.

i like that teams are starting to trade away people now. the offseason was boring until now.

richard jefferson to the bucks? for yi? those thing don't happen everyday.

the draft is the most exciting time of the year for me in the basketball world, every team has hope and for every team that gets it, another fans dreams are crushed. it's nice to have us spectating on the outside for a change.

I have done well avoiding the whole draft process this year until yesterday. Now all of this news is breaking with trades and rumors. I am starting to feel left out now. I would like to see us do something. I just do not see anything that make a whole lot of sense. I am not that high on this year draft after the top 5-7.

What? RJ traded? I missed that and I've been just cruising the net.

Never mind. Found it at ESPN. Shocking deal. Rather inexpensive price for Jefferson. Makes me wonder if my suggested Vince Carter to Cleveland deal will happen next considering that the Nets are in full rebuilding now.

They got Jefferson for a 23 year old project(who is probably going to end up worse than Villanueva in the long run) and a bad contract? IDK about marketing but from a pure basketball standpoint....I would have to think Marvin+expiring or Marvin+future protected pick kills that offer. These are the things that happen when you hire someone from an organization like the Spurs and Pistons.

I dont' really care for the actual players in the draft(and I was usually more disappointed that we rarely moved up in the lottery) but I do feel left out. Even last year....just the thought that the Hawks could have Amare kept me very interested.

That Sonics/Clippers thing is really confusing me. I'm having trouble understanding who is the target for giving up a future first to move up. Not that there is a target just which one it is. I figure I'll understand it after it is done (or not done).

I think it's because Brand and 4(which could possibly be Mayo)is alot more appealing than Brand and 7 for Miami.

Yeah, Ford says that the Clippers are dead set on Gordon but I'd be suprised if he weren't there at 7... I guess they really want to make sure.

Pretty shocked about the Jefferson trade. I thought it would take more than that but maybe Kiki is just high on Yi. I would have done Marvin, Acie, and Zaza for him.

The Nets are clearing the way for a run at Lebron after next season when they move to Brooklyn. And they will have a boat load of cash.

Expect Lebron to opt out in Cleveland and bolt to Brooklyn.

That has to be the reason why . The trade is even more lopsided when you consider that the Nets don't need another PF with Sean Williams/Josh Boone/Swift/Kristic and possibly Diop in the front court. This means that VC is probably available but I would be more hesitant to trade for him than RJ.

It's very frustrating that Sund(and/or the ASG) is content with sitting on his **** the whole summer while teams like the Bucks are going to be much better next year. That's not even getting into teams like Chicago and Miami(supposedly locks to make the playoffs)who could possibly be getting a franchise player for nothing. Seriously...look around. Every team in the East besides the Hawks,Celtics,Wizards, and Magic has made a big move or is rumored to make a big move(including going after our top free agent). It frustrates me to hear that Sund already knows who the top 8 players will be next year and that he will wait to see what teams offer him instead of aggressively going out and trying to improve his team. The Hawks have some flaws that can't be addressed w/o making a trade. Hoping that our young players will just become good enough to win despite these flaws(which Sund is doing if he plans on bringing back Woodson and the same 8 man rotation) is pretty dumb.

Thats what people who don't want to take a risk say. Richard Jefferson(who scored more than any one on our team)just got traded for garbage. Nene is probably available for nothing. Kirk Hinrich is obviously available and would be a good fit next to Joe. Josh Howard and Mike Miller are probably available. Ron Artest could be available. The Hawks have needed a defensive center for years and still lack a legitimate 2nd option...and if this summer goes as planned we are going to need those things again come next summer.

I think the thing is Jefferson got traded for garbage and a first rounder...

It took garbage and a second rounder to get Bibby...

It was just a month ago that we were telling mrhonline that there was no way we could get Jefferson for Marvin. I just don't think Yi is going to be good if he's already 23. I believe the Bucks made a bad pick and they realized that after Villanueva badly outplayed Yi when he was given minutes. Based on skillset alone...I would take Charlie V over Yi. He does just about everything better offensively and is a better rebounder. This was a salary dump for 2010,an attempt to captilize off Yi's marketability, and Kiki's attempt to prove people wrong after drafting that bust in Denver who Yi was compared to.
