I would've picked Bayless and gone for a trade. I really liked Anthony Randolph also.

Randolph scored extremely poor in psychological tests with the Nets . No way the Nets would gamble on a major project with him mental lapses.

fair enough, I was never like Ooooh Bayless, but I felt you had to take a chance on Brook at 10...I'm not saying Brook is gonna be great, but I think has a shot at being a solid starter for a lot of years in this league...obvioulsy he has work to do...

No one takes those seriously. Beasly was asked by the Heat if he was crazy and left it unanswered.

never said great...I highly doubt greatness for him...solid contributor, who you can rely on in your starting lineup...thats what I'm hoping for...so no, my hopes aren't that high...

Sigh...I just wish the Nets weren't leaving Jersey so I can go back to being a fan. I refuse to root for a team that walks out like that. Good draft for them; good trade, as well.

Funny thing I too was literally screaming Not Brook Lopez! Not Lopez! and what do you know the Nets draft Brook Lopez!

It made for some great comedy... For my friend who was watching the draft with me...

Now that everything has kind of settled in though, I'm not that "angry" over the pick, I'll definitely support the guy...

I compare Lopez to a stronger Brad Miller. I'm completely fine with that.

I'm more concerned about Ryan Anderson than Lopez.

I love that I feel our #40 pick will turn out to be the best of the 3 though. Anyone else look at CDR and see remnants of Ron Mercer (pre-nets days)?

Fun night

Lopez makes me think of Jason Collins (at his best), but with upside ... in so many ways.

Ryan had my head scratching. It only makes sense to get a 2nd guaranteed big if Thorn is planning to cut Diop and Nenad loose. But OK, it makes sense then. A total rebuild around Harris and VC.

We did great with the 40. I can see CDR speed and size paired up with Harris.

I hope they can contribute right away, but with almost all rookies you have to wait at least one full NBA season to really say what you got in the draft. It'll be fun to see how they turn out as NBAers... assuming coach gives them playing time, of course. :o

CDR was possibly the best pick of the draft. I like the lopez pick, he is a big guy that the nets will be able to count on for a while. He has a lot of upside.. i think anderson can surprise some people. He led the pac10 in scoring and averaged almost 10 rebounds a game. He can shoot and thats what we definately needed a shooter

ugh bayless would have been better then you could shop VC

and you'd have a harris - bayless backcourt which is pretty nice.

because he can score.

Ok well here is my draft review FWIW.

Brooke Lopez - Don't love the guy, but I think it is a very solid pick. IMO he will add something important to this team that we haven't had since 01, some inside offense. Many here might not remember, even though it seems like just yesterday, but Todd Maccollough was a really important cog in that 50 win Nets team. He was always the guy we went to at the beginning of the game in the half court, and even though he had absolutely no athleticism and nothing to do with our fast break offense, he was a really nice complementary player. It is important to have a big man that knows how to play with his back to the basket, make passes out of the post, and use his size inside to help balance the court. In short, my expectations for Brooke Lopez is going to be a more athletic Todd Maccullough. Maybe a rich man's Nick Collison? Plus lets not forget 2 important things. He is only 20 years old and he has great character/toughness. He definitely has the potential to be even better then that. I can understand people wanting more potential out of a first round pick but at #10 the players simply didn't fall to us. Eric Gordon was the guy I really wanted.

Ryan Anderson - Don't know much about him but from what I can gather his is a slightly taller Kyle Korver. If that is the case then I love the pick. This team simply needs lights out shooters in any form. He's got good size and can play either the 3 or the 4 so I think this could end up being a very nice bench pickup. I have always hated Boki because he is so inconsistent so hopefully Anderson can be an upgrade there.

CDR - The guy I wanted at 21 - very good pick here. I love his toughness and size, he should at minimum become a solid reserve. Love that he has no fear of taking big shots. Every pick in the NBA draft is a crap shoot (just ask Antoine Wright) but I am personally hoping this one works out. At minimum I think CDR is better then Wright, albeit similar in style.

RJ Trade
- Overall I think its a solid trade. Not good or bad per say, that will simply depend on Yi, but very solid. Jefferson had really shifted from one of my favorite players to one of my least favorite over the last few years because quite simply he overrated himself. He is nothing more then a good 3rd player on a team but because we gave him a really big contract and counted on him as a go to guy sometimes he thought he was an all star - which he is not. His shot has improved but it is still not good. His defense has completely regressed and his athleticism is getting worse each day. His attitude at this point was probably more of a negative in the lockeroom then a positive, and lets not forget that little story about getting in a fight a night club. Weren't there rumors about the Nets clubbing too much any ways?

As for what we received in the trade Simmons to me is a solid replacement for RJ. He is basically RJ light. Offensively he won't do as much but he can replace everything defensively. The injury thing to me is a wash because RJ hasn't exactly been durable the last 3 years. I would prefer to get an exciting young player with athleticism to compliment him either as the 6th man or starter (Mickael Pietrus, Josh Childress, maybe CDR) but all in all a solid fill in type. As for Yi, he is basically the wild card of the trade. If it had been the 6th pick of last year's draft instead of Yi I think most of us would have said this trade was a definite win. From what I have seen of Yi his shot looks much better then Krisitic's ever was however he is a total outside player. Again he is only 20 and he is already 7' tall so the potential is there, but in the meantime I think he will easily absorb Krisitic's role. Again, I will never argue against this team adding a shooter because quite simply it is something we have lack for a decade now. IMO Yi is probably a better pure jump shooter then RJ.

Overall with 4 assets we got ourselves the best inside presence we have had since Maccullough, 2 shooters, a slasher with some potential, a solid SF/6th man, and some cap room. Not too bad.

As I said before I think there are still some moves to be made. In a perfect world we could swing a S & T for a 2/3 like Childress or Gordon and then use our MLE and LLE to fill in the roster. Anyways here is a generous prognostication of how I would like to see our lineup in October.

Harris --------- Pargo (MLE)
VC ------------- CDR
Childress ----- Simmons
Yi -------------- Swat ------------ Anderson
Lopez --------- Boone ---------- Vet with the LLE (Kurt Thomas maybe?)

Congrats on the Nets draft. I realy think Lopez was a steal and he will be great for you guys. 15ppg 8rpg should be his peak.

CDR believed he was a top 10-15 pick and refused to work out for anyone drafting after 18. Once he fell past 18 he was a 2nd rd pick and he refused to play in Europe so he continued to drop. He will demand a roster spot or become a FA since most teams want to send there 2nd rd picks overseas he offered less value to most teams. I hope he plays well for you.

Sorry for being so tardy on this Rich. I was away and had no access to a computer. Laptop on its way.

VC isnt going to demand a trade. The guy is in a perfect situation. he was always an underachiever. Now he is with another bad team. He is going to love it here. All he has to do is say, Its not my fault the team sucks. the exact same thing will happen. Players will develop (Yi,SWill, CDR and Lopez) then the Nets will trade his ass. VC isnt the future. Once VC can showcase he is healthy, THORN not VC will demand a Trade.

Excuses, excuses...yeah, right. I've taken off periods due to work. I'm probably the last guy to get on your case.

Pretty much my sentiments. I only stated you'd be on that boat since your love of VC extends to the far corners of the universe. Thorn could always say that VC can help teach the young kids, but I think if he has the chance to get rid of VC's contract for a really good deal, he'll do it.

Yeah Rich, some people think that VC and Lebron will be playing together. IMO VC is gone by next years draft if not by the trade deadline.
