Should We Have Gone After Yi??

Post#1 » by The Guilty Party » Fri Jun 27, 2008 4:35 am

Last year, Yi was a big name on this board and a lot of posters wanted us to trade for him. We're now only 12 months from that draft and he's been traded. I realize that we all want Brand or Josh Smith or Okafor but the odds of us getting any of them is really slim. Should we have gone after Yi if we could have gotten him somehow??

I'm of the belief that passing on him is the right thing since I wasn't impressed with him as a rookie but I'm wondering if there are any Yi fans left on this board.

No. The Nets need help at PF as well. I highly doubt Yi does much to address what they already lacked. He can shoot a little from outside (so can Kristic), but he's soft... he won't intimidate people from attacking the rim, and he's not a guy that will own the opposition on the glass. I'm confident that whoever we add will impact our team much more than Yi will impact the Nets.

I'm a big fan and I would have gone after him, but seeing what the deal was, what would we have had to offer? They had a huge hole at SF so Jefferson was a logical fit (seems they were looking for a vet). The only player I could see us having traded that would equate to Jefferson would be Iguodala and that wasn't an option until FA.

Wow, in other news ESPN just reported that Mayo is heading to Memphis along with Jaric, Walker, and Buckner for Love, Mike Miller, Cardinal, and Collins

One note about the Nets getting Yi and seeing all the bigs they added in the draft....

Krstic is a RFA for them and with all the new blood there (in addition to Williams and Boone), I can't see them stepping up to pay him. We know Stefanski really liked him at one point (highly invloved in drafting him).

Assuming Brand and Smith are not options, I can really see us making an offer for him (assuming he's 100% healthy). Fits our need for a big with scoring potential while we wait for Speights/Smith to develop.

I believe we did the right thing not going after him in a deal. We should get our new pf real soon and hopefully it will be a real stud.

I hate Yi as a player...won't be as good as he was hyped at all.

Nice I think I did it....
