Now what Happens?
Kings new roster:
C: Brad MIller, Spencer Hawes, SAR
PF: Mikki Moore, Jason Thompson, Shelden Williams, Kenny Thomas
SF: Ron Artest, Francisco Garcia, Patrick Ewing Jr.
SG: Kevin Martins, John Salmons, Quincy Douby
PG: Sean Singletary
So we have one more roster spot to give out. Do we re-sign Beno, use the MLE elsewehere?
What deals do we make?
I could see Moore/SAR going to Chi-town for Kirk Hinrich. Bulls save cash and get some frontcourt help. Kings get some PG help.

Don't forget that Duhon is also available now on the FA market, and honestly I'd offer him a 3-4 year deal at 4.5-5 per before I'd give Beno 6/year for a 5 year deal. It leaves us more future flexibility and is more in line with true value.

Re: Now what Happens?
I think the Clippers will offer the full MLE to Beno and he will take it, IMO. With Beno/Gordon/Thornton/Brand/Kaman (or Jordan), they have a very good and young team.
As for the Bulls trade, I don't see any reason why the Bulls would take that. Sure, they save money, but this isn't the Grizzles we are talking about

Re: Now what Happens?
The smart thing is to get something of value for Ron if he doesn't opt out. If he does explore sign and trades but by all means, make sure there is a taker.
Next you have to re-sign Beno. Absolutely have to. I think he is worth the MLE at this point.
Next step is to clear some minutes for Thompson, Shelden, and Spencer. For all 3 to sit on the bench is a complete waste of time. Look at that roster and tell me that it makes more sense to build around Miller and Artest. They are completely outnumbered by youth and players needing minutes to develop.

Re: Now what Happens?
We could always sign Anthony Johnson for a minimum deal for a year or two. No, he's no super-stud, but he didn't do too bad this last season.

Please don't tell me it's come to that

I'd love that, Kirk had a down year last season... but he's still a proven player, and an above-average guard. Especially a high-level defender. Plus he's one of my favorite players.
He'd be a very nice short-term solution

I would love to get him from the Bulls. I think he would add a lot to this team.

Re: Now what Happens?
The sad truth is that it really doesn't matter if we have a super anything at PG. We are a team that could and should be in the running for a possible superstar G in the draft next year. That is where we can get our PG of the future. Hopefully we have the PF/C spot locked up as of now. Time will tell.

Re: Now what Happens?
That would be a great choice to pick up a Kirk Hinrich. He is another player that would seeminglessly fit into the style of play we're heading towards.

Re: Now what Happens?
The way I see it, some long-term options that might be available could include Felton, Crittenton and maybe Aaron Brooks. Some shorter term options could be Ridnour or Watson, Beno or Pargo. Hinrich would be somewhere in between.

Re: Now what Happens?
I think Ridnour could happen. I still expect to see Beno back for a long time. Maybe Artest could net us a fill in at point, but a player like Felton is probably too much to expect.
I am glad to hear that Petrie wasn't willing to give up any of the younger players. Especially happy we didn't trade Garcia.

Re: Now what Happens?
I wish we could just trade one of our PFs. Moore, SAR, Thomas. I really HATE that PF surplus.

I don't know--I would have been more than willing to give up Cisco if it meant we got Bayless and Portland didn't. But I don't think it came down to that, because Indy has a glut at the wings, and not so much at PG (with Tinsley likely gone and Diener a question mark).
As for Felton, I don't know. Drafting DJ says something about what they think of him IMO, and they still need a lot up help up front. I could see Brad maybe being a principle piece in a deal like that.

I think Brad Miller will be traded next. I'm confident that Thompson is already >>>> Moore, so the starting PF spot is his.
I'd also like to ship Artest's *** out of Sacramento

I think it is a sign that they are loading up on "value" guys to hopefully make a move for another veteren star. That's exactly the point they are at as a franchise. 5 years in they need to make the jump up to the next level.

Re: Now what Happens?
I actually think Miller is even needed more now than ever. Thompson can learn just as much from Brad about the offense as Spencer can.
Artest simply has to go. It's clear the way this young nucleus should play, and Artest doesn't fit for a minute.

Why is everyone so down on Artest. Let him have one more shot to up his value even more.

Re: Now what Happens?
Next we try and ship out KT or SAR or both. Then we ship out either Artest or Salmons. Then if we still don't get a quality pg in return we sign Beno for the MLE. Douby can be dealt as well for all I care, same with Moore if it gets us something decent. Then we start the season and give the young guys as much playing time together as possible. Then we end up in the lottery again getting a #10 pick and do this all over. We do this for a year or two until we are well under the cap then sign a big time free agent and hope that our young guys are in their prime or ready to compete. Then we win a championship, have a huge party downtown, compete for a few more years, then watch the team slowly get worse and worse, then do this all over again.
