Post#1 » by drummerrob26 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 3:45 am

The Miami Heat have acquired the draft rights to Mario Chalmers from the Minnesota Timberwolves for cash and two second-round picks, according to a league source.

I edited your title.

Does anyone know when the picks are being sent to us?

Nice of him to improve the team we are getting a first rounder from next year.

McHale is serving up the screwing tonight.

Are the Timberwolves tanking before the season even BEGINS?

Miami just got an A+ for their draft. Beasley and Chalmers. Nice additions. I can't remember if they had any other picks, will have to look.

This guy wouldve been a hell of an add on even now.

So stupid.

Jesus. Cant take one of Memphis's 9 pg's who are all better then ours, then trade the only legit pg we have for 2 future picks and cash

This is just speechless. im gettin no sleep

Yup, after the Memphis trade, this looks much worse to me. We could use a defensive point. I was annoyed we didnt draft a center to help us some next year (Jordan/Hardin/Jawaii), but losing the ballhandling of Mayo and Jaric makes this trade worse.

Chalmers is a project for a pg. At best projects as a Greg Anthony. He likely would have been 3rd string/D-league and made it hard to resign Bassy. We know the team wants to resign Bassy so we move Chalmers for 2 future picks. Portland got depth by getting more picks. We did that here.

Pekovic is better than Jordan/Hardin/Jawaii if the reviews are correct.

Which only matters if Pekovic is ever going to be on the court which seems unlikely from everything I have read.

Really? Why would he not? If we did not have the intention of bringing him over someday we would not have spent the value of that pick on him. We would have got someone else, or traded it.

He has signed a 3 year deal in Greece for more than Rose is going to get in his first 3 years ,so the earliest we could see him is 2011-12.

He has also been reported by DX amongst others as saying he doesn't like the NBA and wants to stay in Europe.

He was the best player available at #31 and I don't mind the pick because if he changes his mind about the NBA in 3 years he will be a good guy to have to bring over, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he never sets foot on an NBA court.

Makes sense, makes a lot of sense. But, the contract amount does not matter. We can give him whatever we want. Does he have an out clause? I have not seen details on it. Nba cap-space is low. Which helps teams, so it does not surprise me he makes more.

Gasol is rumored to sign a 3 yr 9mil contract (3per) we could do something similar.

I heard a rumor that his "I don't like NBA" comment was actually just a smokescreen to assure the greek club's FO that he's not going to bolt and force them to bring more money on the table.

Pekovic has reportedly signed for 4.5m Euros a year, which going from normal European reports would be the after tax figure. So basically $7m a year after tax plus House plus Car and possibly a Yacht ( which seems to be the latest fashion for the top Euro clubs)

There seems to be a question as to whether he has a buyout clause in his deal depending on which websites you read.

Chalmers plays tough defense and shot 47% from 3 point range. Hollinger's statistical projections had him as the 2nd best point guard in the draft behind Augustin and almost everyone projected him to go in the first round.

good gracious, I tune out of the draft at the 29th pick, come back this morning and all hell has broken loose

I can handle the Love trade, I actually like it, but what the hell were they thinking with the 2nd round picks? I guess Pekovic is supposed to be great (maybe that'll pan out at some distant point in the future....*rolling eyes*) but w/ the other 2nd they could've had their choice of Chalmers, Jordan, Jawaii, Walker, CDR...hell, I'd rather they even take Asik and stash both of them...but they trade Chalmers for future 2nds? Why? That seems so stupid.

this 2nd round wreaks of Glen Taylor being a money hoarding scrooge

The Chalmers trade proves that the Wolves intended to keep OJ Mayo. If the Grizzlies trade was worked out earlier, they would have kept Chalmers. Without that trade, he just adds to the glut of guards they had. I would have liked to have seen them keep Chalmers, as he should be a decent PG in a couple of years.

As for Chalmers, McHale said that after the Pekovic pick and the Memphis deal was being worked, they made the deal with Miami for the two future second rounders and cash. Thus, he said, Miami actually made the pick for the player they wanted--the Wolves had nothing to do with drafting Chalmers.
