Worst Draft Coverage Ever?

Post#1 » by rz04 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 5:25 am

I thought JVG would have made it tolerable, but even the few highlights of his funny comments couldn't save the show.

It was painful to listen to Stewart Scott make idiotic comments over and over again. What made it worse was that Stewart talked ALL THE TIME. They didn't even report on most of the rumors flying around the league. Hell watching him made me want SAS back on the table with them. He never provided any useful information. Thanks Stewart, I am so glad to know that Arthur was chewing gum while he sat there painfully listening to your remarks about him....... chewing gum.

ESPN please for the love of God don't bring Stewart Scott back to do anything remotely associated with the NBA ever again.

I never understood the phenomena of Marc Jackson getting mixed up with Mark Jackson. Although I'm sure it is painful listening to Marc Jackson too.

LOL. Could the crowd hear what the table was saying? That makes the entire night 5 times funnier if they could.

Stu Scott and Mark Jackson were awful. Stu makes all these unnecessary comments and dude acts like he's a genius.

Stu Scott: "(Omer) Asik means lover in Turkish."

I missed SAS. His opinions may be off base most of the time but he was definitely more entertaining than these stiffs.

I had no problems with the night's coverage. I'll be part of the minority.

It was a very boring draft I must say. There wasn't much to talk about.

I got the impression they put Screamin A Smith on interviews to tone down the negative remarks about the prospects. But it went too far. You'd swear every unexpected pick was a great one anyways. They talked up every pick I saw even if someone better was on the board.

2 things really annoy me about espn's Nba coverage

every pick Stuart Scott had a "this is the first since.." "he is the first..." everything was a **** first..who cares!!!

stuart scott used to be the man, but now he is a bum

and every time Mark Jackson makes a point he says "when you talk about..."

I'm not a Scott hater, but like everyone else he is simply aging. There comes a time when you're just not cool anymore. His prime was what? Late 90's early 00s's? Sorry my guy you can't carry a whole draft anymore.

Putting Smith on interviews was interesting. He's entertaining as hell..I thought they should have kept him as an analyst at the table. It didn't work because it seemed like the producers wanted him to get sometihng "more" out of the rookies. But eventually he started getting tired of the politically correct answers. Well what do you expect? If one of the rookies says, "Yea were gonna make the playoffs, maybe win it all!", then ESPN is talking about their cockyness and character problems the next day.

The coverage sucked but I think they all do. NBA TV showed some drafts from the past on TNT with ernie and the gang, hubie brown etc...and they were horrible, boring etc..it's just too much live tv time...the filler jokes suck live so you know they won't age well.

Yeah man. According to him every international guy should be enshrined in the hall of fame right now.

The NBA needs to add something to encourage trading on draft night. A one night only deal that gets some action. Not this crap that causes us to "know" a trade went down but it won't be announced for another week or so when hardly anyone notices.

omg I forgot how f'n annoying Fran was. He talks up a Euro for like 2 minutes straight then casually remarks "yea he might need to improve his defense'. I'm like shut the f up Fran. That had to be fustrating to some of the domestic ballers waiting in the 2nd half. Not only were they not getting drafted, they had to sit there and listen to this guy who gets paid to put these international guys over when most of em probably suck.

It was really bad. I can't believe someone thought putting Jackson after he was terrible last year and stuart Scott who just isn't talented enough to carry a draft show was a good idea. I know people don't always love Tirico but he is much more capable of running a draft show.

Also one of the things I realized is that ESPN really really needs to bring in some new blood (Bilas is getting old as well). All in all though I couldn't believe how poor the coverage was. I know its crazy but I think they would have been much better off if the much more prepared Doris Burke (who hello actually covered college and the pros this year) had been the analyst instead of JVG or Mark Jackson who clearly hadn't seen the prospects play. Jackson repeatedly saying when asked that he would take the best player was infuriating.
