Crash nearly traded for TJ??

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Fri Jun 27, 2008 4:19 am

http://www.charlotte.com/bobcats/story/688312.html

Charlotte Bobcats managing partner Michael Jordan confirmed to the Observer on Thursday that they were talking to the Raptors about a swap of Wallace and point guard T.J. Ford. The talks apparently hit a snag when Toronto additionally asked for a draft pick. Instead, the Raptors are moving Ford to Indiana in a trade involving forward Jermaine O'Neal.

The salaries for Wallace ($9.5 million) and Ford ($8.77 million) are close enough that the deal easily could have worked under salary-cap rules. Wallace is to make $9.5million each of the next four seasons.

It's clear the Bobcats are looking to reshape their roster. Multiple league sources confirmed that the Bobcats spent the days leading up to the draft assessing trade value for all their veterans.

WOW!! Thank GOD that didn't go down!

Like I said, sometimes our stupid Front Office has to "luck" into the right move. Not trading Wallace was the right move. We shouldn't really trade anyone. We should look into shoring up our few remaining holes with our MLE, and let everyone play together next year and see how it all comes together, then look into making trades if necessary.

Too much information from MJ. That would've been a bad move.

Naaaa man. The deal would have been Crash AND the #9 - meaning we wouldn't have been drafting until #20!!

There would have been no Lopez for us at #9!!

So the comparative is:

Augustin and Wallace over Ford!!

With Jamison and Arenas UFA's, and Boozer and Brand on the market, there is still the possibility that trades may occur.

Felton, Wallace, May, Harrington, future 1st

S&T Arenas

Then convice Jamsion to play here for around 7-8 million.

Augustin
Arenas
J-Rich
Jamsion
Okafor

Wallace + Felton for Boozer

Augustin
J-Rich
Dudley/Morrison
Boozer
Okafor

Wallace + Felton for Brand and Knight

Augustin
J-Rich
Dudley/Morrison
Brand
Okafor

Unless there was some magical way to keep Wallace and aquire one of these dudes

If Toronto wanted #38 then #17 had to be included....

I'd guess it was TJ Ford, Jamario Moon, and #17 for Gerald Wallace...

The Raptors probably felt like they were losing out on 3 rotation players for 1.

I know the #17 would have been coming this was if MJ and Brown wanted another pick bad enough that they sold a future first for #20.

Wow, what the hell? Out of all the possible trades we could make for Wallace they want to deal for a PG who is angry he's got competition and is one fall away from being out of the league. I tried giving MJ the benefit of the doubt but it's clear - this guye DOES NOT know how to run a basketball team.

That would have been a terrible move! I know they wanted to replace Ray but is it that bad?

Was this just a straight up trade or no? There appears to be a few different opinions here. I actually like the option that had Moon included.

Straight up would've caused me to cancel my season tickets.

I'm glad how we drafted. Only one trade to et 20th. More trades mean more opportunities to be screwed up in our case.

I don't really understand why Wallace is being shopped. The only negatives I see are his mediocre shooting and injury-proneness. We do have Dudley and Morrison, but Wallace is much better than both. What about Wallace's game do we think LB dislikes?

Also do you think we would trade Crash and Ray? It would be a huge shakeup for the franchise.

This is one of those times you wish you didn't know everything.

Or maybe Wallace is worse off then we don't have a clue about????
