Love's Arrival = Jefferson on the Block?
Forgive this Nets/Mavericks fan, I do NOT intend to start a flame-fest. I'm just figuratively scratching my head with this thread, as I imagine many Wolves fans are right about now.
Al Jefferson has said many times in the past that he wants to be a full-time PF, and yet McHale seems determined to make him the franchise C. At 6'10, he does not have ideal height, and lacks the defensive intensity to be a real paint patroller. Adding Love to the mix means Al would play even less PF than last year, and with an extension looming large, I have to think that Big Al may ask to relocate to a place that's committed to making him their PF.
The Nets would love to make a splash and target a big-time FA via sign-and-trade or otherwise. Sean Williams, Marcus Williams and one of Nenad Krstic or Brook Lopez doesn't equal a 21/10 young stud; I know this. I was just wondering if ANYTHING would persuade the Wolves to move Jefferson. Suggestions definitely don't need to be limited to the Nets; let me know who you would like.

Re: Love's Arrival = Jefferson on the Block?
I think the Wolves see Love as their center. He doesn't have ideal size, but there are teams that play the Wolves preferred style (halfcourt, low-post) with undersized centers:
Detroit - McDyess
San Antonio - Thomas or Oberto
Granted, those teams have great defensive PFs, but both Jefferson and Love are very young and have the opportunity to learn defense together.
Regardless, Jefferson isn't going anywhere. If Love fails as a C they'll draft someone else to play that spot.

I want Jefferson to leave i want this whole organization to leave because thier forcing our best player to play with normal players and letting allstars get away(Mayo, Roy)......If you best player wants to play that posisiton let it be and dont trade to get another undersized player.... and now are lineup includes 6"4, 6"4, 6"8, 6"9, 6"10...is'nt that great most teams have a 7 footer and we have a 6"10..... Height does matter and I hope love is going to be a dissapointment so they can fire Mchale for good reasons......while mayo becomes rookie of the year

It sounds like you weren't aware that Jefferson already signed an extension last summer. But anyways, I can't see any scenario where Jefferson would be traded.

No, Jefferson won't be moved. He is the franchise not Love.... I think the 2 will work out, after a couple years together anyway... but Jefferson isn't going anywhere.

Yes, Al is on the block with Love as a high post option. Oh wait, that is not what you meant.
Al never said he wants to be a pf. What he has said is he wanted help on the boards and another big man to play with. Miller got almost 7reb as a 2/3 and Love is a very good rebounder. Love and Jefferson will both play 4/5 and fit well together.
I bet Al is happy. A solid big smart guy next to him and now a vet shooter. Al is likely happy.

That isn't funny at all. Winning it all in Baseball and Basketball still doesn't help with the pain of going 18-1.

OJmayo lol you are a funny guy. You want a tissue after still crying that over hyped Mayo isnt coming here. Cry Cry Cry. Fact of the matter is he is turnoverprone and overatted big time. You whine about not having a legit 7 footer but are comfortable with Mayo a t the 2 when he is drastically undersized and has no wingspan. He could turn out to be a good player yeah but I dont see why so many want to suck his balls so hard for. Watch games dont just read SI.

Re: Love's Arrival = Jefferson on the Block?
How many quality 7 footers are there in the league...Yao, Shaq, Dhoward (6'11), Kaman, Camby (6'11) and Oden (potentially)...Yao is soft, Shaq is Old and Kaman is slow. Al really only has trouble against DHoward (like everyone else) and all the Centers in PF bodies (Amare) and maybe Oden. I would prefer Big Al to guard the C position rather than all the quick PF's in the NBA. On offense it doesnt matter, Al is a low post player and Love is high post (with passing ability and a jump shot). They are going to destroy people on that side of the ball.
I can't believe people still bring up foye/roy....Roy started his whole rookie season while foye came off the bench (and played 12 minutes less a game). Foye was injured for 3/4 of his second season. The jury is still out as far as I am concerned. Granted, Foye needs to put together a heck of season, but he is more than capable of putting up Roy type numbers and being a 4th quarter stud. Which would have been less likely to happen if Mayo would have stayed.

Jefferson isn't going anywhere. My guess is that Love will be playing mostly at the 5 position.

I assume you're talking about Jefferson's defensive abilities against those guys. He demolished Stoudemire with 30 and 15 in 4 games last year. He didn't do too bad against Howard with 21 and 10 in 2 games. I have no doubt that Jefferson will tear Oden apart with his post moves. I don't buy into all the hype.

Re: Love's Arrival = Jefferson on the Block?
Jefferson is going nowhere. We just had a post about the 4/5 debate with Jefferson over at Hoopus:
http://www.canishoopus.com/2008/7/3/564 ... ottom-of-4
There are 2 big things to take into account with Jefferson at the 5:
1- How many other centers/pfs out there are as bad on offense as Jefferson is on defense? What about guys who are as good as he is on offense and better on defense?
2- The Wolves had one functional position last year: center.
When paired up against guys like Amare and Howard, Jefferson is either better on one side of the ball than the other guy is on the other side of it, or he equals one side of the ball while exceeding the other vis-a-vis his opponent. Howard, Amare, and Chandler all have significant flaws on 1/2 of the court every bit as much or more than Jefferson. Amare is Al's offensive equal but he's worse on d. Howard can dunk but beyond that he's not an offensive threat. Chandler's offense stems from playing alongside a top-3 PG. Chandler is outscored and gives up an 18.5 PER at the 5. He's a nice help defender but he doesn't exactly burn it up at the 5 compared to his opponent. Howard is a dominant defensive player who holds his opponent 5 below a league average PER, but he's not the type of player you can count on to get his own shot in the 4th like Al can in the low block. He could develop into a monster, but he's not there yet.
Amare is the closest it gets to Big Al. He's Al with better talent around him. He's a supremely talented offensive player who gives up borderline All Star numbers to his opponent. Wolves fans should be very interested to see how Shaq plays next to him next year (for a full year) or how a guy like Robin Lopez can help/hurt his game.
