Re: The Official 2008 Draft Thread 2.0
Yeah, between Amare, Nash, Shaq and Hill (and Barbosa and Diaw when they aren't sucking), I don't think offense will be a problem for the Suns. Lopez begins to fill the portion of their roster that causes them to struggle. Maybe some more minutes for Strawberry this year, that'd be neat as well. Moving Barbosa/Diaw for more depth at the 2/3 (athleticism, defense and shooting) would be great. I'm a little sad that we couldn't work something out in order to acquire Rush, because he would have been a nice fit but still. Definitely sour that we're missing out on Alexander but again, Lopez still fits well at that pick in terms of need and talent.

From the Knicks board
"Knicks tried to get the #15 from PHX to get Mario Chalmers."
Wonder what that was about?

I'm actually really interested to see how Boris and LB react under Porter; he'll hold them accountable, and I think they'll really improve.
I was listening to Kerr on the radio today and it sounds like they're not planning on moving Boris any time soon; he called him the "perfect insurance for our frontcourt" since he can play the 3 frontcourt positions, and he called him the best player in the Playoffs for PHX.

Re: The Official 2008 Draft Thread 2.0
Well, if Boris is playing the 3 and passing and posting and playing aggressively, then he's a good player, '06 proved that. If he defends while doing all that, then he's worth his contract because he's doing what he was acquired to do for the team.
Barbosa has had one bad year and we (myself included) are all overreacting because he's dumb as a brick and a specialist-for-life anyway, but he can shoot normally and if he's beaten with a stick, then he should be OK. I'd still rather have assets instead of him, though, especially a legit backup point and some more depth on the wing.

Re: The Official 2008 Draft Thread 2.0
well, LB had been growing as a player since he was a rookie. I myself was very frustrated with him. Mainly because he doesnt use his physical tools to its full advantage. I think Lb will always be a 2 guard. I think LB has worked hard to improve his game. I think Boris hasnt. I want to see how LB and DIaw do now that accountability comes into play. I think LB is a better talent that anyone the suns get for him draft wise. I want to see how he does this season first.
As far as draft I think phx got what they needed. The thing is phx has the talent to go far and they just need to play like it. I dont think stacking talent guarantees them a ring so I am not really mad that Robin lopez was who they picked.

Re: The Official 2008 Draft Thread 2.0
Sure Ma Fa... we got what we needed ? ... but we are still hamstrung at the back up PG and are are going to rely on a lanky rookie as the primary back up at C ? We are old in the wings and limited tax wise as to who we may add. About the only plus I see is Porter and that is yet to be proven as a positive move.
Our front orfice continues to get out manuvered on draft day then sings out self praise as they are patting their owns backs publicly when internally, they have to be wound licking.
ie... 2 seconds and 500K to move from 48 to 46 ??? (sold a # 1 last yr for cash, then 3 picks later another team sold their # 1 for the same $$ PLUS a second) I have to think the FrontOrf was just going to try to sneak Drajic by everyone, but San Ant anticipated thier move and spanked us right on the wallet side of the arse. Meanwhile, they use they (SA) stock up on international players (assets), utilizing that league as their own developement system. And yet we hear we would have taken Drajic at 15 ??? where does Kerrveball get off on issuing such drivel?
This attitude for win now has crippled this organzation. I have continued the process of toning down my expectations. What a watse of $$ those 'Eyes on the Prize' billboards were.

Re: The Official 2008 Draft Thread 2.0
dantoni refusing to play more than 7 people crippled our chances. His lack of commitment to proper rebounding and defense schemes crippled our chances. why should sarver not trade the picks? when dantoni refused to play rookies. I dont know if you remember but Dantoni did not like Rondo because he couldnt shoot. he signed banks but never played him. why wouldnt the suns want to have the win now mentality? they are a veteran team not a young team.
I say Give Robin Lopez a shot. didnt suns fans boo nash? didnt suns fans boo shawn marion too?

Yes they did, but those picks were made under a regime which had proven to be competent.
Kerr and Sarver have done nothing to prove their competence to me or anyone else. So you should never put blind faith into them until they do.

Im not putting blind faith on Kerr and Sarver much like I am not going to forget how things were with BC. Didnt BC want Nene, or Skitza? Who was it that convince BC to draft Amare? Griff right. Who was the guy that extended Diaw, amare, and Barbosa? sarver. Who was the guy that traded for shaq because we needed a TRUE center? Who is the guy that took Dantoni aside and try to convince him to play KT more? who has called out amare, barbosa , and diaw for their lack of accountability?
I think its hard to know when the suns will win an nba championship but being a defeatist and cynical fan wont help any. they are still our team and as a fan I want to support them. I dont agree with some of the stuff they do but I am going to support them nonetheless.

First I've heard of this (I thought both the Colangelos were huge fans of Amare, especially Jerry), but I'll take your word for it. +1 for current team officials.
Who was the guy that extended Diaw,
-1
amare,
+1
and Barbosa?
+1
sarver. Who was the guy that traded for shaq because we needed a TRUE center?
-5
Who is the guy that took Dantoni aside and try to convince him to play KT more?
No idea. I know it wasn't Kerr, because his first real act as GM was to pay Seattle to take KT off our hands. I don't think this ever happened, honestly. I know that Kerr made a point after this year to tell D'Antoni to play his bench more (especially DJ & Tucker) and to spend more practice time on defense, because that was very publicly leaked, which royally pissed off D'Antoni. Even though both of those criticisms were spot on, I agree with D'Antoni that it's bush league to leak that kind of thing to the press. I know I'd be furious if my boss chewed me out in a very public fashion. So I'll give +1 for the advice, and -1 for the handling of the advice.
who has called out amare, barbosa , and diaw for their lack of accountability?
Kerr, I guess. How's it worked so far? We'll give this one an Incomplete.

Fair enough, and quite reasonable. I myself am still supporting the Suns, but only halfheartedly until the front office can convince me that they know what they're doing. They've given me way too many Eff Yous the last few years to merit anything more than that.

I also cant wait for the summer league. Robin Lopez is a good defender and might do more then people think on the offensive end, and having the teachings of the best PF in the league (Amare) and quite possibly the most dominant Center in NBA history (Shaq) is a nice bonus. He has the chance to be a super sleeper in the NBA. I dont think we will see Dragic this season even though i wished we did because i dont think he will pay the 1 mil. left on his buyout after we pay the 500k. Hopefully DJ worked on his offense and ball handling. Im really excited to see more then a 7 player rotation on the Suns this year, its gonna be an exciting year!

Re: The Official 2008 Draft Thread 2.0
I saw the NCAA game vs marquette. He showed some promise. I think with RObin, as long as he asserts himself he could be a major contributor to the team. I think Tuck needs to be more agressive and I hope Dj has worked on his shot. I think DJ is a decent back up point guard. He makes routine plays with the rock. I think he has a bettter feel for the position than LB. I hope that Carthwright teaches these guys (amare, Diaw, and Robin) on how to play better fundamental b-ball. I think Of all the 3 Robin is the best rebounder but he needs to be a better defensive rebounder. I hope these 3 also learns how to defend the paint.
