Interview with May: health concerns?

Post#1 » by fluffernutter » Thu Jun 26, 2008 11:04 am

I'm up and down reading this interview. I still don't think he gets it.

http://northcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=78&p=2&c=763547

"How are things going with your knee?

Oh, it's good, feeling great. I've got probably another month or so. I get cleared July 1, but I will probably take another two weeks to give myself a little more time. I've got to get rid of this bone bruise--that's the only thing. The micro-fracture has healed. They said it's better than what they'd expect. I don't see any reason why I won't make a full recovery.

How is your conditioning? You look like you have lost weight since February/March.

Yeah, I've dropped. Right now I'm back at Carolina in Chapel Hill with Jonas Sahration, the strength coach. For some reason, he knows how to get the weight off me. I'm still not where I want to be. I want to get down to 260. Right now, I'm still 275, but I'm down 12-14 pounds from what I was. It's been a long off-season. I haven't even started running yet. Once I start running, I'll get in better shape, better condition. Right now I'm nowhere near basketball shape. "

I don't even think a word "concerns" should be used. It's a sure bet he is done. At least we have some expiring to thow in in trades.

Good to see he's taken an extra two weeks to rest.

It's not like he's been sitting on his fat arse getting fatter while doing nothing for the past 2 years.

300lbs?

Man!!

I think the cats should use the upcomeing season as an evaluation period for may. Ive always been a UNC fan but if May cant produce its time to move on.

For a guy that considers this board dead whenever he posts, you'd think you'd be a little nicer to ballboys with 4 posts (all today) on this board.

apparently, Sean May is gone. I clicked on "Sean May" at nba.com/bobcats/roster and I got "given player can not be found".

May has more to prove to the Bobcats then probably any player other then Eddy Curry with the Knicks.

Injuries are a major issue and aren't absolutley a players fault, but May keeps his conditioning horrible and seems to think one day he'll suddenly be completely fine.

His YahooSports playerpage picture makes him look like one fat bastard.

May doesn't even try to hide it. He drinks alcohol to excess and is seen at Fuel Pizza (local pizza chain in charlotte) eating everything in sight. If you play basketball for a living ... and you're still fat ... you're an embarassment. Someone as tall and wide bodied as May probably burns about 1,000-1,2000 calories per 60-90 minutes. Burning that amount of calories and still gaining a ton of weight means you have no regard for your diet. May is an embarassment. I wish his contract could be voided.

There's a ton of money on the line this season for May. His nba future is in doubt. With that much to prove I expect him to have a good season if he's healthy.

As a cavs fan I would consider trading for him if the asking price was appropriately low, very low.

I don't know about other Bobcats fans, but I really like potato chips.

Do the Cavs have a spare bag or potato chips laying around?

They don't even have to be fresh. Heck, it doesn't even matter if the pack is already opened......

I have a feeling May will do so good this season to get a good contract only to play lack luster till his next contract year. I think if the time comes when his value is high enough, that this team should trade him. Just looking back, this team could've drafted a plethora of players where May was drafted at.

coming to Charlotte was the worst possible thing for May. For those of you who don't know, it seems like there's more fans of UNC basketball in Charlotte than fans of Jesus or Billy Graham. It's ridiculous and it's also pretty comical about 95% of the Tarheel fans have never even visited ChapelH Hill. What also sucks is the Carolina basketball fans don't give a damn about the Bobcats. It's ike the Bobcats don't exist.. just Carolina basketball.

May comes to Charlotte and everyone kisses his fat lazy ass because he was the MOP in the Final 4 for Carolina. It's just a far too comfortable of a situation for someone who has obvious motivational issues to begin with.

If I could trade May for a dozen pizzas (his favorite thing to eat at 2 AM after $hitfaced at Uptown charlotte watering holes), I would do for a second. Damn, just give me a half dozen pizzas and you can have May.

I'm less negative on Morrison but it's becoming pretty clear the best case with him is an instant offense type player whose maybe number 7 or 8 in your rotation. He can;t defend, can't rebound, and the NBA lifestyle can't be easy for someone with such a serious medical condition. All that for the 3rd pick.

I'm open to showcasing Felton during the first half of next season to get his trade value up. Even if that means Augustin taking a backseat for half a season. Get Felton's trade value up and ship him out for a rugged, tough post player.

Take insulin? Check.
Monitor blood sugar? Check.

He can't defend or rebound, but diabetes becomes more difficult to manage due to the NBA lifestyle?

May says he's ready

Post#18 » by CarolinaCash » Thu Jul 3, 2008 1:39 am

http://www.charlotte.com/breaking_news/story/696784.html

May says he has been cleared to resume bball activity and that he will be ready for camp. He's going to Vegas and hopes to participate in drills. “I'm full-go now,'' May said Wednesday, sitting in the Dean Smith Center offices after working out with North Carolina strength-and-conditioning coach Jonas Sahratian. “But again, after eight months, I'm not going to just jump out here, get it all back in one day.”

IF and that's a big IF May comes back 100% healthy how much can he help the team? Does he play enough defense (or any defense) for Larry Brown's liking? I think he can be a huge help in rebounding and scoring but is he a ball hog and is he liked by his teammates? I know Gerald Wallace doesn't like him but he may not be here anyways. On insidecarolina.com they had pickup reports of former players vs current players....May obviously didn't play but they said he was there shooting all the time. They said that he won every single 3pt contest and that is jumpshot was deadly. I guess in between cheesburgers and lapdances he's been working on his shot. A healthy Sean May and productive Adam Morrison can make this team a top 6 seed in the East.....IMO.

Interesting. He'll be a total liability on defense. He was bad before the injuries, but afterwards he'll be terrible. We'll either have to play him with stellar defenders so this is offset, or really pick the spots to unleash his offensive skills. I'm leaning towards the latter, because he might actually make it through the season if we don't play him in too many back-to-back games.

If he comes back 100%, meaning the way he played in those 35 games in 06-07, he provides borderline-allstar production on offense and on the boards. Back then he wasn't a total liability on defense, even if he wasn't a world-beater either (I might go a little better than "bad").

If Walt is right and the injury still affects him, though, he's also right to say that he would probably go down to "total liability" status. I doubt his offense is substantially affected though, and I'd guess he'll still be a good rebounder even if he's not as good as he was.

Bottom line, ANY contribution from May is sorely, sorely needed depth at the PF spot. If he plays a substantial number of games even close to as well as he did in 06-07, it's like picking something up for free. I'm not getting my hopes up, but everyone should remember that those 35 games weren't just okay, they were GREAT.
