Michael Inoa, worth it?

Post#1 » by Pharmcat » Sun Jun 15, 2008 8:30 pm

as most of you cats know the time is comin where international players can sign...the cream of the crop is this 16 yr old cat who is 6'7" 210 throws a 93 fast, + change and curve with his best asset as control (much needed for some1 his height)

rumors have it multiple teams have offered 3 mill sign bonus, the As have offered 4 mill sign bonus....simple question, you willin to go above 4 (4.5-5?) to get this dude?

Money ain't a thing!

You gotta get this guy, hear he's two times Felix Hernandez.
He's 15, turning 16 in September.

I'd be willing but its not my money. A kid of that age is the definition of a hit or miss. But its all about stacking the farm with as much high ceiling talent as you are able to financially. If we have the money, do it. Kids with his tools don't come around every year in the draft or IFA market, especially because of his age.

Plus the Yanks don't go into these things blindly, they decide on a dollar amount that they can realistically spend on the draft and IFA period. They didn't draft a lot of huge bonus guys, which has led to speculation that they are going to go wild in the IFA period. Also, quotes from Carlos Rios have confirmed a lot of those beliefs. Expect the Yanks to make some serious noise on July 2nd, even more than usual.

Many "experts" felt that this year's draft didn't offer a lot of high ceiling prospects, and it seems like the Yanks agreed with that and are getting ready to go spend that money on the international guys instead. They know what they're doing.

I think he would. Even though Cash is in charge, it is the guys underneath him like Oppenheimer and Rios that do the bulk of the scouting and recommendations for draft picks and IFAs.

As much as Hank seems like he'd spend anything, you have to remember that even the Yanks have spending limits. They can only allocate so much cash to the draft and international free agents every year. The team is trying to get $400 more million financed by the city for the new stadium, there clearly isn't an endless pit as most would like to think.

Inoa sounds interesting.

Another guy that seems to be interesting is Yorman Rodriguez, currently the best OF prospect of the group eligible for signing. Best 2 attributes are power and speed (both in the 70's on a scale of 20-80).

Yup, and the Yanks are rumored to be set to get both.

there are 2 Rodriguez OF in the top 5 of this class

yorman compares to miggy cabrera and there are words that his agent has stopped showing him around, meaning they got agreement already

rafeal compares with vlad, but the report says he has agreed with SFG

I think we should. I mean if we can waste 40+ million on Carl Pavano and however much on Kei Igawa, I have a hard time believing we won't spend a couple extra million to get the best international prospects.

Hey, also remember Hank supposedly wanted to work out an extension in spring training and then again during the season. I think a lot of people were speculating if Cashman wanted to be back but it certainly looks like Hank wants him back. I can't see Hank wanting to bring him back if he doesn't trust him. They may or may not work out a deal during the winter but based on the information out there, it won't be because they don't want Cashman. -Jitpal
