Rajon Rondo vs Russell Westbrook

Who will be better long term, and how do they compare skill wise, and athletically?

How is it possible to even answer this question?
I guess Westbrook being in the lotto should give him an advantage but we ight have to wait the next few years for this comparison.

Rondo, without a question. Before the 2006 season, he was considered to be a high lotto pick but was hurt by playing in Tubby Smith's slow it down, let Tubby call out every play system. Didn't suit Rondo's strengths.

At this point, with Rondo being only 22 years old and being able to put up a stat-line like 21 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 steals in the close-out game of the NBA Finals, you have to give that kid the edge right now.

Well Rondo is already one of the best defensive point guards in the league and a good distributor. So Rondo should be better.

Westbrook has yet to play a single minute in the NBA so the obvious choice is Rondo... I like Westbrook's potential on D a lot better than Rondo's though, despite what some people would like to have you believe Rondo gambles quite a bit on defense and is by no means a "lock-down" defender.

Westbrook is the more physical defender and I think if he lives up to his potential that will give him the edge over Rondo in defense.

From a playmaking standpoint it's not close though, Rondo > Westbrook, and it's likely to remain that way over the course of their careers...

Rondo's already one of the best defenders at the position. I think Rondo has more potential than Westbrook.

Very well said, basically all the stuff I came to say. Rondo is a terrific ball handler and even a good passer.

Westbrook wishes he was Rondo.

Rondo has had an easy ride of it, but his play in the playoffs was an important factor in the Celtics advancing. He can get even better - not All-Star better, but he can be a long-term upper-quartile PG.

It was a huge reach at 4 for Seattle; really a draft position they hated.

If they liked him more than any other guy available and were not able to trade down how is it a reach?

That argument holds no water.

The year Rando was drafted, IIRC Ainge was ready to use the pick that became Brandon Roy(6th or 7th I don't quite remember) on Rondo. He just lucked out that Rondo fell to 22.

i think Rondo is going to be a spectacular player. Because of his poor jump shot though, I think of him more as a jason kidd than a CP3

Well I'm a Seattle fan and I'd have to say Rondo for the simple fact the Westbrook hasn't tied his shoes in a pro locker room yet. You have an idea what Rondo will be able to "replicate" at the pro level yet Westbrook there is still a huge question mark on how his game will "translate" period.

Kind of like the Durant vs Beasley debate.

I do think Westbrook will be a better defender though. But still eveything is a question mark.

Westbrook's potential is said to be Rondo with a better jump shot.

Rondo's potential is Rondo with a better jumpshot (and better decision-making on defense).

Rondo is the way to bet. His jumpshot has already improved a lot.

Rondo was drafted 21st by the Suns.
