James Jones anyone?

Post#1 » by creative1 » Sat Jun 28, 2008 6:14 pm

I've always like James Jones game considering he is a bench player. It looks like Portland is going to let him go so we might be able to get him on the cheap. I think he's one of the better 3pt. threats int he league. Hihs length and speed are also, not to mention I've seen play some decent defense. He's not a physically imposing player but can get quite a few steals at times.

I definitely think he's attainable and would be a nice addition for the bench so we can have another legitimate 3pt shooter paired up with JET. Wouldn't you rather have him much more than Eddie Jones????

One other player I can think of that would help us at a very reasonable price would be Carlos Delfino.

We have plenty of 3 point shooters on our bench right now so I don't view James Jones as a need. We need size and guys that can score some points for us inside. As much as I don't like Eddie, James Jones is far from being an upgrade, and Eddie is expected to accept his player option for the upcoming season (2 million).

I'd much prefer Carlos Delfino over James Jones but he's not going to be cheap.

Well we could offer James Jones a contract, but lets not.

He doesn't fill any need for us. He will also be looking for a contract of atleast 4 mil a year and he doesn't deserve that.

I don't want ANY player that not only plays on one side of the court, but can only do one thing on that one side and isn't even good enough at that to make the 3-pt shoot out like Kapono.

No, we don't. George can shoot a 3 just fine, but Stackhouse is terrible at it, Eddie Jones is 37, and JJ Barea never plays.

The Mavs took only the 19th most 3-pointers last year, and they did it at a below average percentage. For one of the heaviest jump shooting teams in the league, that's abysmal. 3-pointers are more efficient than long jumpshots, and they draw defenders out of the paint so guys like Dirk and Howard can take it to the rim.

Remember what happened against the Hornets? New Orleans left Stack and George open when they were in the game but they couldn't convert. They just packed the paint, making it pretty hard to get to the lane. Now did you see the Spurs/Hornets series? The Spurs made the Hornets pay for doing this.

He would prob take a part of the MLE so its tough. If we dont sign Diop for the whole MLE but a large part of it and its enough left for James Jones, it'd be a good pickup. No doubt in my mind. (I dont really know why people here are hating on him, hes a very solid player whos good at making things happen kinda like James Posey)

James Jones and James Posey are nothing alike...not even in the wildest dreams.

Well he is not that great defensively like Posey is, and Posey did it for a long time now and has become a proven winner, but Jones can do some things defensively(lots of hustle, blocking, taking charges).
Offensively theyre much alike, spot up shooters, and Jones is really good at that.

Dont underestimate my dreams!

I'm against Jones becoming a Mav. There is no reason for this. We drafted Foster.
