I believe free agency begins at midnight on July 1st, is that correct?

Who is the 1st player Donnie and the Mavs' will be calling to work out a deal in Free Agency? Also, when do you think the Mavs will make their 1st move wether in Free Agency or Trade? And all together what do you expect the Mavs to do this summer and their roster to look like?

They will do nothing just like the draft. I believe that story is true about Diop. So we will sign him for the full MLE, which is extremely overpaying a center that scores less than 3 points a game. We will fill the rest of the roster with vetran minimums and maybe Reyshawn Terry.

You can start negotiations on the 1st, contracts cant be signed till the 7th... Diop will be our key signing, unfortunately. IF we do anything to give fans hope this summer, it will have to be through some trade, which is highly unlikely IMO... I wouldnt mind Artest or Marion if we can somehow get deals done for either... I dont expect anything, however. I have very little faith in our front office right now. So basically what I expect as far as roster changes, nothing really until the trade deadline next season, when our expirings finally have some value.

Diop will probably be the first player that we call about because it's most likely one to happen.

He's not where close to Ben Wallace, without the full MLE, I don't see us being able to sign him at all. That's the truth. There's not much free agents in our price range. It's a poor free agent pool. Look out! Maybe Lue could get the full MLE this summer.

Not a chance. If a pg is to see the full MLE it will be Udrih. Not every team uses their MLE, and especially since there are only a few teams under the cap no one wants to pay extra money and pay the luxury tax. I see Lue going to Denver for about 2.2 mil a year.

Just because the mavs have a history of overpaying just about every single player that has played for them doesn't mean they have to do it again. Tony Battie is someone who is getting paid around the MLE this year (his contract right now is about 5.7 million) and for his career he averages 6.7 points and 5.6 rebounds a game and that is much better than Diop. I'm not saying I want him but there are so many of these guys around the NBA that we don't have to waste our money on Diop just because he was here before.

Maybe we look at Patrick O'Bryant from the warriors for a small amount. Chris Anderson could be someone we take a gamble on. Just if we are looking to give the full MLE why don't we try to get Kurt Thomas so atleast we have a center that is a threat to score as well.

either our frontoffice won't do anything or it will surprise us with something none of us expected
like trading howard or a package around stack and george for a star like VC

I agree, I am leaning towards them doing nothing though.

If Diop is our key signing, we better make a splash with either Dampier or Bass/Stack via trade.

There simply is not enough minutes to play Dirk, Bass, Diop and Dampier all what they deserve. I'd rather have a cheaper center as an insurance policy to Damp if no trades occur.
