Bayless: I will show the NBA

A lot of rookies use that motivation when they arent the Number 1 overall draft pick in the NBA Draft. It happens every year with a rookie who gets drafted after number 1 saying "I need to prove to the 7 or so teams who didnt draft me different". A lot of players take it personal if they arent drafted as high as they think they should have or werent drafted #1. I know its their competitive spirit to think their the best player everywhere they go, but it seems like they just lack common sense that just because they arent the number one pick that they were overlooked. I mean i guess if it motivates a rookie to play harder to prove the teams that didnt draft him that hes good then more power to him right.

I'm glad. Hopefully this fires him up and makes him that much better. It could be the best thing that's ever happened to him.
Who knows?

The only guys who made good on that "I'll prove everybody wrong for not picking me" promise were Gilbert Arenas and Paul Pierce. Everyone else proved the teams right. Bayless is wait and see.

Agreed. I think Bayless @ 11 is a steal, but who's he kidding? No frickin way he goes ahead of Rose, B-easy, or OJ. It might be a great motivating factor and all, but don't make yourself look stupid by making those thoughts public.

Re: Bayless: I will show the NBA
Yeah, I'm a modest person myself so if I were a player in college with considerable talent that could go high in the draft, but end up late lottery, I wouldnt take it personal. I would understand that I may not fit every team in the lottery.
I think that mentality works for second round picks however. Mostly second round picks are guys who nba scouts really dont think will have a great career or dont have a huge upside. Second rounders are usually undersized or their usually as good as they wil lbe already so they have a drive to prove teams wrong.

Right, and like Rose said, he will try to me the MVp in his rookie season. What is wrong with these guys?

NBA: No you won't.

On one hand I like his fire, on the other hand I'm going to laugh my behind off if Bayless goes into his chuck-first, chuck-second, and chuck-third mode under Nate McMillian. This has the potential to be some good comedy.

i was really surprised augustin and westbrook were picked ahead of bayless... teams must've saw something they really liked in the workouts... still, only WORKOUTS. I'm not bothered by these comments at all, and I don't think it was a shot at rose or mayo in particular, but if I were bayless I'd think I'm better than westbrook and augustin too.

there's nothing wrong with that..he didn't say he's going to be the MVP, he said he's gonna try to be..I bet his coach loved hearing that..confidence and determination..

Re: Bayless: I will show the NBA
Easy to say now that he'll be playing with guys like Oden and Roy. As far as his draft position, he just happened to be the guard on he outside looking in. Augustine is a true lead guard. Westbrook is ruthless on D, he will rip your baby bro in nerf basketball..he doesnt care. And Mayo is just the better player. Only guy who you might be able to argue against is Gordon. But imo his build, athleticism and ability to draw fouls gives him a higher ceiling than Bayless.
The teams obviously valued the true pg and great defender more. Bayless wasn't going to convince gms that he was anything other than a combo guard. And out of the trio of Mayo, Gordon, Bayless, he came in third.

Nothing is wrong with that. Its nice that rookies say things like that "I'm gona try to win mvp this year", "im gona be an all-star this year", but at the same time its not very realistic for MOST rookies. Not even Lebronski was an all-star his first year. If I was vinny del negro I would be happy that rose thinks he has a shot at mvp, i know its not gonna happen, but its nice to hear a rookie think that.

Confidence is never a bad thing.
But a lot of these guys will realize that other than the officiating....the NBA is no joke.

Re: Bayless: I will show the NBA
Give the kid a break. On the radio they asked him about this comment and basically he said it out of frustration. He was prospected to go top 4 for months, then drops to 11 and to a team he didn't want to play for (Pacers). He's over it now and happy how things turned out, going to the Blazers and playing with his friend Channing Frye.
If Derrick Rose dropped to number 8 when he was told for months he was a lock in at 1 don't you think Mr. MvP would have something to say to the teams who passed him up?
Bayless is a good kid, he wants to succeed in the NBA and isn't as ego driven as people make him out to be. He has a modest side and I think it's unfair he's getting looked at this way any more than Rose, Beasley, Mayo, Love and the Lopez twins are. The top ego in this draft to me seemed to be the Italian.

Well saying and doing are two entirely different things. All rookie who think they should have drafted higher say the same things, either in public or privately. Doesn't mean anything when they are not doing anything special in the NBA, riding the bench of better yet, out of the NBA.

Bayless will be the Caron Butler of this draft.....3rd best player in the draft, drafted way too late.

I hope you're right. I think Rose and Mayo will be another tier above him. Beasley will be good, just not AS good as he's being touted, but still better than Bayless. 4th best hopefully.
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

The reason Westbrook went over Bayless is defense. Westbrook is going to be elite, Bayless is going to suck.

Based on what? The opinion of a bitter Kings fan?
